Need help on colorspace problem between Benq projector and blu-ray player

Hi all,

I have a weird phenomenon happening between my Sony BDP-S570 Blu-ray player and my Benq HT3550.

For some reason, recently, I've started getting the "purplish" screen that indicates a color space mismatch between the two. Both devices' colorspace settings are on "Auto".

When I change either the Blu-ray players setting to "RGB", or the projector's to "YUV" (either full-range or limited), the problem goes away.

In other words, when the two devices are both set to the same standard (either YUV or RGB), things are fine. But when they're both set to "Auto", the problem is shown.

I just received the projector back from BenQ to have the HDMI board fixed, and it works fine. The Blu-ray player is old, obviously, but works fine otherwise. There was a lightning storm recently, but other than that, I have no explanation for this.

Interestingly, no matter what setting the Blu-Ray player is set to, the projector shows the input as "YUV."

Any ideas?

Typically YUV is preferred for projectors, so if setting both to YUV works then go with it.

Thanks, I may do that. But the question remains: why are the two devices not working with each other "Auto"? This wasn't like this in the past.

Excuse my ignorance but why would you use a 1080P player with a 4K projector?? Wouldn't it be better to get a full use of the 4K projector by using a 4K player??

Good question. Yes, it would. I had one, but it stopped working. So for now, I'm making do with the old one. But wondering what's causing them not to communicate well. Is it an EDID issue? Or something else?
