Need help on riser on carpet

290 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  vemulasri
Hello Gurus,

I am thinking of adding a riser in my hometheater (2nd floor). Currently I have Carpet and I am thinking if i should put riser on the carpet itself or just remove the carpet and do the riser. I am also thinking of filling it up with the pink stuff in the riser and will be redoing the floor with carpet tiles. Any suggestions / recommendations please. My room is 10 feet height and so the height is not a problem.

You can build a riser on carpet but it will never be the same. Don't expect to remove the riser at a future date and see pristine carpet.

Thanks. If i remove the carpet will that be a problem? If removing is better i prefer that way. just want to see which is better.

the advantage of building on carpet is the floor will have some cushion and the framing will sit over an irregular surface a little better. If is is just sub-floor there may be some high spots that keep the framing from sitting tight.
