I have Wide Open West cable with their Scientific Atlantic 8300HDC DVR and a new Samsung HD TV.

I have a bunch of VHS tapes that I'd like to convert to DVD and a bunch of mini DV tapes from a Sony camcorder that I'd like to convert to DVD.

I was looking at the Sony VX560 or VXD655 and the Panasonic DMR-EZ48VK. The Sony 655 and Panasonic have a tuner but I'm not sure if I need it or not.

Questions:

1. Do you think I need a tuner in a DVD recorder VHS combo with the equipment I already have?

2. What make and model would you recommend for what I mentioned above?

3. Can you copy VHS to DVD's with a combo unit just by plugging them in? I.E. - Without hooking up to any other equipment or TV?

4. After I record the the Scientific Atlantic DVR there are options to "Copy to VCR". With a DVD recorder will I be able to copy to DVD instead of a VCR?

Thanks for your help. I'm obviously pretty new to this stuff and really appreciate your input.
