Hello all! I'm getting ready to turn on my Denon 790 and do the Audyssey setup, but I need some help setting up my PB10-NSD sub. The Denon manual says this:

When using a subwooffer with a direct mode

Set the direct mode to "On" and disable the volume adjustment and crossover frequency setting.

When using a subwoofer without a direct mode

Make the following settings:

Volume: "12 o'clock position"

Crossover frequency: "Maximum/Highest Frequency"

Low pass filter: "Off"

Standby mode: "Off"

I have the sub hooked up via the low level inputs to the receivers preout.

The sub has a crossover knob and a switch to disable/enable the crossover knob.

It has a switch for "Auto ON" or "ON" (always on).

It has a phase and gain knobs.

So what should I set all these to for my Denon 790 and Audyssey to be happy?

Sorry if anything I wrote doesn't make sense... I spent all day hooking my system up and I'm half sick so I'm a bit worn out.

Thanks!

Set the sub to On, so Audyssey sees it right away, disable the cross-over knob so the receiver will manage LFE without interference from the sub, set volume (gain) between 10 and 12 o'clock. Once Audyssey set up is complete, turn off/on to Auto and leave the rest alone.

WELL CRAP!

I plugged in the mic and the setup screen automatically comes up like it is suppose to... but when I start audyssey it fails to find the first speaker. It comes back with an error saying something like there is either no microphone or no speaker attached. The speaker played sound fine so I guess the microphone that came with my receiver is broken.

I hooked the mic up to my laptop and turned its volume up all the way. I tried to record some sound from it through the standard windows sound recorder and... nothing. I assume this mic can be used in this way... so this really does tell me that its broken.

I manual set it up.. but I'm no expert. It sounds GREAT but I would still like to use audyssey.

I looked at denons site trying to find how much it would cost me just to order another one, but I couldn't find the mic on their site. Where do I need to go to get a new one?

Does the left front speaker make the test tone when you get the error message? If so, it is the mic.

Contact Denon service or dealer for a replacement.

Well I can't contact Denon today, but I have been looking at the parts sellers link to from Denon's site.

I found the mic that comes with the 789 is a DM-A409EM. The mic that came with the 790 just says DM-A409 on the box. Are these the same mics?
