Hi Friends,

I am designing the architecture of my home network. Please find the layout as attached. Just wanted to confirm whether this will work as designed or not. As i want to use single speakers part of my A/V Receiver to play music from TV - Files shared on my HDD/Laptop, from my Android Phone & Samsung Tab using iMediaShare App or Twonky Beam.

Query are

1. How Audio from Set up box will get out from speaker part of A/V Receiver- Do i need to connect Set up box to A/V system over HMDI- will audio will go to speakers and video will come through TV since TV will be connected to A/V Receiver on HDMI as well

2. Normally does A/V receiver have Aux 3.5 mm jack or not so that i can plug my Airport Express to it or do i need a separate cable to connect AE to A/V R, if, which cable is required. I hope audio will be 5.1 as speakers connected are the same.

3. I hope, pics/videos and audio which i want to push onto my TV using Airplay on AE, i will not face any problem and audio for these applications will also come from same speakers.

Please help Guys. Layout designed is attached, in case of any changes required, please do the same and upload that for our reference.

That is the basic job of the AV Receiver. Any source coming in via HDMI will play audio through the speakers, while the video is passed along to the TV.

For the AE you will need a "mini-Toslink" cable that has the 3.5mm jack on one end and the normal Toslink connector on the other.

AE will share music only - no video or photos. If you want that, use an Apple TV instead of the AE.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the reply. Appreciate.

Just wanted to confirm, in case I replace Airport Express with Apple TV, do i loose on any feature and functionality as I want to use AE for Airplay and Internet Services (Wireless Router with DHCP enabled for all devices). Also assuming that AT will connect to A/V Receiver on Mini-Toslink cable. I hope rest of the network looks fine and will work.

Another additional thing i wanted to re confirm is "Will audio out from A/V work for all devices shown as they are not directly connected to A/V on HDMI however using Wi-Fi to connect to AT which is again not on HDMI or AT use HDMI connection as you suggested that in spite of AE.

Thanks

As nola said, they're two different things. I wouldn't use an AE as a router/gateway device - and if you want video via Airplay you need an AppleTV (or something else that supports it). So a traditional wireless router for your networking.

ATV is connected to your AV Receiver via HDMI.
