I am trying to decide on a new projector to buy. My current set up is a 100" elite screen with 1.1 gain using a Sharp XV-Z9000U 720P DLP projector. I am considering moving to a Sharp XV-Z20000 1080P projector or the other choice would be a LCD Epson 9500UB. My room is light controled with very little to no ambiant light. I do like the 9000 however find that sometimes it seems a bit hazy in picture and would like something a little cleaner looking. I do love the blacks and have found that I do enjoy DLP. I have seen the 9500UB in action and found I do really enjoy the picture, however was worried about moving to a LCD projector for a DLP as I do really like the blacks, and it was hard to tell in the room I was in how the blacks really looked as there was a lot of external light.

Sources would be a Pio Elite BDP-05FD and a Oppo 83, Pio DV-58, and a Pio DV-47ai.

Let me know what you guys think.

First off, the XVZ20000 is no longer made...so finding one might be harder than you think.

You keep mentioning that you like the black levels on the 9000, yet by today's standards they are pretty poor. Are you referring to ANSI contrast? If not, even today's LCD's, though overall an inferior technology, will outperform your old 9000.

I think the worry usually is more along the lines of decrease in sharpness, ANSI contrast and the "3d" like look DLP's have.

I have found a few places that still did have the 20K's and I have been seeing a few pop up that were used. I realize the 9000 is a pretty old model. However I did compare it with a Optoma HD20 I believe and feel the 9K had a better picture as well as black levels. Maybe it was just me but I did feel the 9K was a better picture overall.

I also know that I'm comparing two totally different types of projectors, DLP and LCD. However, the store I normally go to uses the 9500UB as their main recommendation for a PJ to use, and for the price, seems hard to beat.

However I do like DLP's and have read some very good things about the other Sharps. I know there maybe other models to look at as well, however these two PJs would for me, be the easiest to possibly obtain, and that's why I was leaning towards them.
