As you can see from the pic, room (it's an apartment) will be red walls and windows will be black trim. The red is actually more like burgundy but the flash makes it look really red. Ceiling and screen wall will be black.

So, what do I do with the closet door and the regular door? Black also? Also the trim along the bottom of the entire perimeter of the room: black too?

Room is small: 11 x 10 (basically a two seater
) Both doors are on the same side of the room, separated by about 3 or 4 feet. Doors will be on the movie watchers' right side.

Also, is black carpet bad? Or should I do a gray? I don't want it to reflect light from the screen but I don't know if black is overkill (my seats will be black too).
I'd go black on the door, not red. Or if you want red, red door with black door frame or trim.

I'm doing a similar color scheme (burgundy walls, black columns/ceiling, gold crown molding). I'll probably go with a dark grey with some kind of pattern to it.

I don't think you will find much selection in black carpet - even dark greys are hard to find. That said, I don't think it's particularly bad, although it will show dust pretty easily. I'd go with a charcoal myself.
I'd do all the trim in black (baseboards, door) and the door itself in red (and replace the door knobs with something black too).

I'd go for some type of patterned carpet that contains reds and blacks (if you can find one).
thanks for the replies

btw, this painting thing is a nightmare. there is so much trim in the room, and with 2 colors it's too time consuming to do (masking every little edge, etc).

i got estimates from painters and the cheapest was $700. i dunno if that's reasonable but i'm tempted to just hire someone and be done with it.

i really have gained alot of respect for you guys building your own theater. i'm merely painting and gave up. i can't imagine starting a room from scratch.

I rarely mask anything. Just use a slow steady hand and you don't need it. Saves a lot of time.
Painting sucks and I hate to do it, so I feel your pain. We hired a the best painter in the area to do some rooms. After painting everything, he said it was some of the hardest rooms to paint in his 40 yr career since the trim around the doors and windows were cut so precisely and so tight to the wall. I guess that's a compliment to our builder.

exactly. you can't really see the trim in the pictures, but all that trim is like contoured or whatever the name is. so there's like little valleys all over the place. such a nightmare.

anyways . . . i was wondering, how bad do you guys think it will look if i paint the entire room black? i've never been in a black room. closest is the projector room in the Sony store here in manhattan. they use black-ish panels and it's really dark in the room. of course, even if i paint it black, i have my speakers, which reflect light and are easily visible when i turn on the projector, even though they are black (they are right below the screen). ugh.
