Need help with my first audio setup

Hello guys,

So lets start with a bit of my struggles so far. I got a pretty nice TV and thought is would be a great time now to finally upgrade my audio as Ive been using built in tv speakers forever. My first thought was to get a nice sounbar as its simple and will probably sound great, so I did. First I got a pretty flagship samsung bar Q950T which for me sounded impressive but It failed in one aspect, It didnt support LPCM over eArc from my tv which is pretty vital for gaming which is a main purpose of my setup (70% gaming 30% movies but if I get a nice setup music will surely come into a mix) so I decided to try another bar which was jbl bar 9.1. It did support lpcm over eArc but it sounded a bit less impressive than samsung so It was weird settling with less. Now that leads me to the idea of building a system with av reciever and separates as Im already spending quite a lot and from everything Ive seen on the internet now they it should blow the bars out of the water. So why not lets try building a system.

My space is probably not ideal, its a 3m x 5m room with 2.5m ceiling, so pretty small. So I thought the best option would be to get a 3.1 setup and save some space. (Maybe a different setup would be better, what do u guys think?) As you can see on the room plan the tv and bed are kinda in a side of the room and there is about 1,65 meters under tv to place the speakers. Probably not ideal, butI could widen it to about 2 meters if need be. Would require mounting tv and a shelf again but shouldnt be that much trouble.

So for a 3.1 setup with my room being on a smallish side i though bookshelf speakers would be a better option. Ive seen a ton of praise for emotiva lineup and its quite affordable, so for now that would be my pick:
2x Emotiva Airmotiv B1+
Emotiva Airmotiv C1+ (worth to pay up to C2+?)
On subwoofer Im not sure about, there are also Emotiva subs like SE8 and SE12 but maybe there would be something better? Ive seen a lot of people recommending SVS subs.

Now for an amplituner is the hardest part. I use 2.1 devices like PS5 and PC connected to my TV (LG G1) so I think eArc receiver makes the most sense but they are pretty expensive. Denon 1600x or 2700x are probably overkill for my setup, but they would be pretty futureproof if Ive ever wanted to upgrade to 5.1 or atmos right? These amplituners cost more than fronts and center combined.

So thats my current idea, does it make sense in my room and usage case? What would you maybe change about it? Would this be a noticable step up from the sounbars Ive tried? Maybe a different setup alltogether?

Thanks in advance!

Please add labels to the diagram. Other than the door and window, it is not clear where TV and MLPs are.
Thanks,

The Emotiva B1/C1 combo is pretty hard to beat for price vs performance...only the Infinity Reference speakers when on 70% off at the harmanaudio.com website can best them, but that's not available outside the US and your profile flag is from a different country (France?). In your 9 x 15 foot room the C1+ will be plenty, since you'll be sitting only 6-8ft from the speakers.

What's the price difference between the SVS PB1000 and the Emotiva SE12 in your country? If it's insignificant, I'd go ahead and get the PB1000, but if it's too big the SE12 should be ok given the small size of your room. In Europe, I'd also check prices with BK Subwoofers, based in the UK and shipping all over the EU.

As for the receiver, if you were in the US I'd tell you look on Craigslist for a 5-10 year old receiver that originally retailed for $600-1200 but can be had for as little as $75-150 because the owner is chasing the "future proofing" sales gimmick. (There is no such thing as "future proofing" because this industry constantly pulls new "game changing, state of the art, must-have" bells and whistles out of its backside every couple of years.)

Updated the picture with labels. Im not sure what MLPs are, could you explain please?

Main Listening Places, aka the $$ seat(s)

With your 2m (~6ft) width for the front speakers, I think your 3.1 idea is a solid choice.
Others may disagree, but given the relative small front stage width and close listening distance a 2.1 system with a better sub may the best choice, especially if budget is a concern.

Im from Poland.

Emotiva costs 2200zl which is about 450 Euro, PB 1000 costs 2500zł zo about 70 euro more. PB 1000 pro costs 3000zl so about 140 euro over emotiva. As for Bk these are the prices Ive found but shipping would probably add a lot.

As for a reciver, yeah the cheaper one would probably make a lot more sense for this setup, but eArc or HDMI 2.1 passthrought is a must as I have 2.1 PC and a PS5 connected to my tv.

Oh in that case I'd take the PB1000 over the Emotiva sub in a heartbeat. The extra performance of the PB1000 Pro would most likely never be utilized in a room of that size.

I really liked the center channel aspect of the soundbars ive tried so a 2.1 system would probably be a regression in dialogue aspect?

Well, having a physical center channel gives you the ability to raise the volume of the dialogue independent of the other sounds. Many receivers offer electronic ways of doing this but people usually find them less effective/pleasing in comparison.

But you could just order the pair of B1+ with a sub first, and then add the C1+ later if you find you are not in the lucky 20-30% of folks who are ok without a physical center.
Thanks for suggestions everyone. So my system will look like this:
Emotiva B1+ fronts
Emotiva C1+ centers
SVS PB 1000 sub

And managed to find a receiver on a local trading app - open box Yamaha RX-V383 for about 300 euro, will probably shave a bit more from the price. It has eArc so the most important feature for me is there. Its 5.1 so i could add another pair of B1+ as surround in the future. Would you guys says its a good pick for the speakers and better choice than paying more than double for the denon 1600x?

Looks good to me. Let us know your impressions once you have it all set up!
Just ensure that the seller includes the AVR's setup microphone.

It does, but im kinda confused now, some sites list this av as arc and some as earc, not sure which is correct.

There is no mention of eARC. With 4K/60Hz passthrough on all HDMI channels, you can plug your devices directly into the AVR, and have it send only the video to the TV. Since you don't have an 8K TV, you won't be taking advantage of HDMI 2.1.

Yeah, i think it was some sort of mistake in that listing, and a site they probably got it from. I use hdmi 2.1 devices so i need eArc or hdmi 2.1 passthrough which i dont think is available now. So back to the drawing board, need to find a different receiver.
You will probably have to go up to the Denon X2700H for that, or the Onlyo TX-NR5100 (coming soon).Apparently the Yamaha RX-V4A YAMAHA RX-V4A 5.2-Ch x 80 Watts 8K A/V Receiver NEW

Cant get yamaha anywhere and denon is pretty damn expensive, cheaprst one ive found so far is denon avr-s650h, might need to get this one.
So I ordered every speaker and av receiver, everything should be here by thursday. Now I only need some stands but ill probably experiment first with height and maybe make my own stands. Also will the components come with cables or do i need to buy it separtely? What type of cable should I buy if so?

I really hope this setup will blow me away as it ended up being twice as expensive the soundbar system i tested before.
You will need speaker cable, HDMI cables, a subwoofer cable, and banana connectors (if you wish).
Amazon Basics or Monoprice OFC (Ozygen Free Copper) bulk speaker wire is all you really need to spend. I would get 14-guage wire. The same can be said for subwoofer and HDMI cables - just ensure you get the certified high-speed HDMI cables. The sub cable is a simple co-axial cable with RCA connectors.
Banana plugs are extremely convenient for connecting your speakers. My hands get cramped trying to screw down binding posts on the backs of AVRs, so I tried some inexpensive banana plugs and it made the world of difference. Again, Amazon Basics are high-quality ones that are pretty inexpensive.
