Ok i really need some help i have been googling for at least 6 hours today:

Back story: Bought a house built in 1919 (no cat5,6) just coaxial

Wanted: Media Closet to at least 4 zones (separate video) with the option to expand, best quality i can get.

Do not want: to tear down walls

What i have come up with: 4x ZeeVee Zv150s, 4x HTPC type boxes, 1x NAS

I am just wondering if this is the best way to go about it?

Is there another cheaper solution or is this probably the best way?

the Zv boxes are 1000 bucks a piece so they are pretty pricey but they allow me to run it over existing coaxial.

Really i am thinking about running 2 HTPCs and 2 XBOX 1s since all Tvs would be able to access all the boxes. I am basically trying to eliminate the need for cable and just use services like hulu and boxee to watch TV and the movies would come from netflix and the NAS.

Also i wanted to get remotes that are the on ebay for like 40 bucks.... they have a full keyboard and screen, but there going to plug into a certain computer so i wouldn't be able to control the computer if i switched inputs right?

Please tell me if this is a workable solution.

If you absolutely can't get any new wires to the zones/rooms and are stuck with Coax only - you only have two choices - an SD (480i) system for about $200 or the ZeeVee system - note that the $1000 150 is 720p. You can get a 1080i from them for about $2500/channel.

There are some wireless systems but in my humble opinion they are not ready for primetime.

next question... how do i do multi zone audio... 4 separate things playing but the ability to play the same in all? I was thinking of hook up a sonos to this system but that would require a completely separate remote.

Basically i would like to watch a movie downstairs and pause it... movie upstairs and continue with audio in all rooms? This audio system doesn't HAVE to be wireless as the first floor in the house was previously wired for surround, and the upstairs walls are coming down.

I just don't know where to look... i found a company russound but i don't know if its controllable by a ir/rf remote.

PS.. i might be way over my head here.ad
