PJ calc overestimates throw distance. You will find a million quotes here about determining throw distance by maxing the raster, putting it on a wheeled cart and moving it back until the image just fills the screen.

Separating image size vs. Rater size has always bewildered me when it comes to the G70. What I've found to be a good rule of thumb is to reduce the PJ calc throw distance (horizontal distance b/w Green tube and screen) by about 4%.

You can probably geven go as much as 5%, but 3 - 4% is a nice balance between preserving a little flexibility im zeroing in on screen size, and not maxing rater so much that you get soft corners in your image b/c you're using the very edge of the lenses.

Make sure you get thje physical setup spot on (compensating for it afterwards is pretty hard/impossible), i.e. throw distance, but also keeping the PJ exactly level, exactly square with the screen, as well as with the centre of the green tube/lens aligned with the exact centre of the screen.

3M painter's tape, a measuring tape, a level, and a plumbob (if you're ceiling mounting) are indispensable. A laser level finder is nice to have, but I never used one. The G70 was the first PJ I ever setup, and whileI still have a lot of work to do on calibration etc., and really need a pro, the physical setup is pretty good. Just be meticulous with your measurements and you should be okay.

Get hold of Guy Kuo's Holy focus doc, (the version modded by someone a month or two ago) to specifically address the G70) - a searcg of the forum will unearth it.

Also, do a general search of all G70 related threads and you'll pick up a lot of good info.

Good luck.

Bashir.

I recommend Ken Whitcomb if you really want to see what your G70 is capable of.

are you looking for a setup help, or calibaration?? big difference, one is getting a picture, and the other is having ken touch hands and making it the best picture possible.
There is also a guy around here called CraigRounds (CraigR) who was moving to Chicago really soon , who is a CRT expert/calibrator...glad to see locals, I live in Joliet..were practically across the street from each other.

this is his website...
