I recently put together a little setup at home and need some help/advice for optimizing the sound I'm getting.

I purchased the following system:

Samsung LN52B750 TV

YSP-3000 Surround Sound Speaker Bar

YST-FSW100 Subwoofer

Playstation 3 (for games and Bluray DVDs)

DirecTV HDDVR HR22-100

I have the DirecTV receiver and the PS3 plugged in to the YSP-3000 by HDMI cables and a single HDMI cable going in to the TV.

I wasn't getting 5.1 sound from the PS3 for my Bluray DVDs, but I found a solution for that problem in another thread (using bitrate streaming).

The question I have is why I can't get better sound quality from my DirecTV receiver when I'm watching HDTV channels that indicate they broadcast in 5.1 surround sound quality. The YSP-3000 only recognizes stereo sound coming from any channel on the DirecTV receiver.

Can anyone help me find a way to get better sound from my HDDVR HR22-100 receiver from DirecTV? Are there any tips or suggestions for getting the best performance from my YSP-3000?

Thanks in advance for the help.

if i remember correctly with that directv box you check off options for video saying it can do 480,720,1080, allowing it to choose. but if you check off only 1080 it will force 1080. now, i havent gotten to tamper with the sound much as i am just setting mine up but perhaps there is a similar setting for audio, allowing it to pick from 2 channel or 5.1 or 7.1 you can force 5.1 by only checking off that option? i may be off here but its just a thought, something to try out.

edit: also, could you share the link you found for the ps3 5.1, it may save me a headache or two in the future. thanks!
