this will depend on your application of course. For HT, the yamaha is a powerhouse of connectivity and versatility. However, for music I would tend to side with the warmth and robust power of the marantz.
I'd say Marantz for both applications, especially since the new Marantz line is now using Audessey for room correction. As far as connectivity, unless you're doing something like xm etc the Marantz should handle just about anything.
Only a few differences in features between the two. Only one I would care about is no HDCD decoder in the Yamaha.

Dear Mannoiaj,

Yamaha has 0.04% distortion, while Marantz only 0.08%.

What don you think :)

Thanks.

Unfortunately this Marantz does not have HDCD as well.
honestly gmpatent, i prefer the sound of the marantz as edvard does. I think the marantz is far and away the better performer for music and HT applications. If the receiver does music well, it will do home theater well in most cases. With marantz, i feel this to be the case. At this price point for receivers, i don't think that any company can come close to the marantz as far as build and sound quality performance. I like my denon 3805. I auditioned vs yamaha and harman kardon vs the denon and liked the sound of the denon. After about a year, i decided to audition other receivers with my speakers at another audio store, and i found that i liked the sound of the pioneer elite 74txi better than the denon 3806 and yamaha. When i auditioned the marantz head to head with both the denon and pioneer, i found the marantz to be the best of the whole lot. In my first vague post, I was just stating I like the marantz over the yamaha for music. For Home theater, I don't think there will be too great of a discernable difference, however i believe that marantz will edge out the yamaha. Go with the marantz and don't look back is my honest opinion and advice.

Dear Mannoiaj,

Appreciate for your advise. Now I will look for Marantz dealer in NY area.

Many thanks.

Yes, it does. Spec table on the Marantz web site is misleading. Little square dots, which means 'Yes', can easily be confused with - signs, which means 'No.'
