Hey guys, I want to set up a BYT this summer using a 16 x 9 ft screen with a rear projection setup. I'm unsure of which projector to get though. I'll be showing movies during the evening and at night, so I need something with enough lumens to light up a screen of that size as the sun is setting or has just set. I have budgeted $15,000 for the projector, but am willing to go up to $18,000 if I need to. I'll be using the Open Air Cinema inflatable screen.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I would look at a high lumen single chip DLP. Something like a Dvision 30 Series from DPI. If we can help you, give us a call.

SIM2 has a model...the SIRIO...that's spec'd at 7000ANSI and which should fit into your stated budget. It's available with a bunch of lens options, including a super short throw that would be ideal for rear projection applications. I think Christie also offers something in this category.

I was just curious if it might cut them down a bit. I've never seen a high end DLP on a rear projection screen before.
I have seen a bunch of rear projection setup's, but I don't see rainbows, so I could not tell you if it makes a difference or not. My opinion is that it does not change the rainbow effect.

As picky as I am, I never noticed rainbows on the Samsung RPTV 1080p DLPs some of my family members used to own.

Hi, I would consider starting out with a less expensive, used projector to make sure this setup meets your expectations.

take a look at the Infocus IN5535 which was made for large venue use. You can pick these up for around 3K on Ebay from reputable sellers.

info on the projector:

This auction ships with 2 brand new lamps
