Why is it so hard to find a decent priced receiver with a decent amount of digital audio inputs and HD (component/DVI/HDMI) inputs/outputs??? What is the need now a days to have so few of these yet 50 (exaguration) analog inputs??
I'm going to be moving into a new apartment next month and figure it's a good time to upgrade. I've been looking to get a new receiver to replace my Denon AVR-1800. This receiver has done great but i'd like something that can do my video switching from all my sources to my reciver for me, instead of having wires, adapters, converters, and external switches all over my room like I do now. Mostly since i'll be moving in with my girlfriend and with my current setup i'd have to give her lessons for a year on how to use everything.
I'm by no means some hardcore home theater guy who has a bunch of high end gear. I just have your normal stuff, but I cant think of one thing that I have which would be connected using analog audio and a composite or svideo connection.
here's a list of everything I use that I want connected to my receiver and output through my projector.
PC Video (component/VGA or DVI/HDMI)
PC Audio (digital out)
DVD Video (component or HDMI)
DVD Audio (digital out or HDMI)
HDTV Box Video (Component or DVI/HDMI)
HDTV Box Audio (digital out)
Xbox Video (component)
Xbox Audio (digital out)
PS2 Video (component)
PS2 Audio (digital out)
Future items:
Xbox 2, PS3, HD-DVD player
So far thats 5 current items none of which use stereo sound, composite video, or svideo. The only thing I can think of where I would need an svideo and stereo connector is if I wanted to hook my old VCR up to my old 27" TV. But I have no reason for doing so.
I'm looking to spend less than $500 on a new receiver. I first looked at the Denon 1705 since my friend just got it himself. It has three component inputs and one output with svideo and composite to component conversion. With this i'd be able to hook up three things, 1 video game system, HDTV box, and DVD player or PC. Then have only one component cable going across my room to the projector. Its like if there was one more component input then it would be fine, as I dont mind switching out the cables of whatever video game system I want to use, but i'd really like to have both my PC and DVD player connected at the same time. However, three seems to be the most I can find on any
