Need more informaton about the chapter-divide problem with RDR-HX900

I'm a bit fuzzy on exactly what the problem is, and how to get around it. Is the problem that if I record material on the HD, and that material does not fit on a single DVD, then I cannot record the remaining information? For example, I've got many S-VHS tapes that have more than 1 hour of information that I want to record at the best PQ. Can this be done with the Sony? If I don't buffer it on the HD, and just write it to the DVD, can I span multiple DVDs that way? I find it hard to believe the only option I have is to reduce the PQ. Are there other workarounds for this?

There are no workarounds built in. In your example, you could either record direct to DVD and find a logical break point to exchange discs OR record to the HDD in increments not exceeding 1 hour and create separate titles as you go. Then, you could dub each 1-hour title to separate discs.

Thanks Jeff. For the workarounds you suggested, is it true that I would have to manually break up the material, which means I need to be at the recorder before the DVD fills up. Or, could I set it up so that automatic chapters would be created every 10 minutes, for example, giving me the logical break I need.
