I had been using the HK avr 445 for the past year until my aquarium decided to frig it up.

It is at the repair shop now, and has been for 3 months. I am almost at the point of getting it back and buying a new one.

Are there any other avrs that are equal to it? I do run 2 subs now so i was thinking about the harmon kardon that ahs dual sub outs.

I am more concerned with sound than anything. I dont need anything special with HDMI as long as the audio is great.

I dont want to spend a ton, but if i can get something just as good for cheaper that would be great too.

How about buying used off ebay? There are tons of old AVRs being sold off because it doesn't have ------- . (fill in the blanks)

You don't need to get an AVR that has dual sub output, just get an RCA 'y' adapter that splits the sub output to two lines, for two subs.

As for buying new, there are lots of options. What features do you need? Do you have 5 speaker setup or just stereo? Are your speakers hard to drive?

I have been checking ebay and craigslist. I found a couple HK 745's for decent price but i am weary on used stuff.

I currently run/did run the 2 subs with a rca splitter. It would be nice to setup them up individually though.

My speakers are nothing fancy. polk towers, bose center, and cheapo sattelite rears and rear-ers, and 10" and 12" velodyne subs. (7.2)

As far as features SQ is number one. I dont need to run hdmi through it, but it would be nice to have it "un-molested" something i think that HK doesnt really do. 7.2 would be ideal, but 7.1 will be good too.

There is, or should be, no difference in having each sub on its own jack vs splitting the signal.

I use an HK 247 as a preamp processor and don't find the 'molested' video signal to be a problem. Of course YMMV.

As long as you don't need video switching you should be able to find many used AVRs with acceptable power levels. Maybe craigslist? Local want ads? Ebay? As for buying used from ebay, I always follow one simple rule, don't buy from anyone with less than 99% feedback, and with at least 50 or more ratings. In somewhere around 150 purchases, many used items such as cameras and lenses, stereo gear etc, I've yet to buy a dud.

I have a very good working HK AVR520 that I want to sell. It is a 5.1 system with 75wpc x5. 85wpc in stereo mode. The HK power ratings are probably conservative, typical of HK. The front face looks like new. PM me if you are interested. I'll be putting it on ebay later in the month when everyone's wallets have begun to recover from the holidays.
