I have two old 18" Velodyn subs. I want to add to them because as everyone says they are long in the tooth. I am 100% movies. I have B&W 802's for fronts. Been toying with building but want to consider adding one or two subs and pre-made would be great.

If you've got sealed subs...
- add sealed subs (e.g., Rythmik F18); or
- replace with ported subs (e.g., Rythmik FV18).

How many subs are you considering (either as additions or replacements)?
What's your total budget?
Thanks, ideally I would like to add two instead of replace with 3.

Budget is around 2K a sub

So, don't add ported subs to a sealed sub system?

Although mixing sealed and ported subs can work, it's generally not recommended to do so.

What model Velodyne do you have? Aside from a budget of ~$2K per sub, do you have any limitations such as max dimensions or general appearance?

If you were to go with, say, a pair of PSA V3611 for $4,200, shipped...
- 1920W (RMS/continuous) amp
- 2 x 18" driver
- 16-200Hz +/-3dB
…you likely wouldn't need to "replace with 3".

Thanks for the recommendation they look nice.

I have a 15X22X8 basement room so 2640 cubic feet. So, two large PSA's or 4 smaller something better. 100% movies.

Additional question: I understand it is recommended to get a miniDSP for the multiple subs. For four subs what is the recommendation. People aren't running all their speakers through miniDSP's especially if you have a 8802a etc or am I missing something?

Thanks for all your help!

This is the one you want.

It will EQ up to 4 separate channels. These could all be strictly for subs if you wish. If you have subs stacked, or equal distance to your listening position you could then eq two subs together off the same channel as well.
