I would like to purchase a good DVD player (not more than 300) that can upconvert to 1080p via HDMI and component and one that is regions free (have tons of Japanese DVDs)

I found 2, oppo DV-981HD and HELIOS H4000 models that can do this.

Any other models that I should checkout?

Between the 2 above which one is better? I have read good and bad things about both.

The oppo 981 only has hdmi output, no component. That may narrow your decision
