Hello

My current setup is polk RTia5 towers, CSia6 center, small polk satellites for 5.1.4 with an SVS PC12plus and denon avrx4300h.

We are remodeling the room and id like to convert to in wall and in ceiling speakers but don't want to lose any sound quality, id like to upgrade.

Ill be buying from best buy as I have a part time gig there with their discount. So id be looking at bowers and wilkins, sonance, martin logan, kef and definitive technology. Martin logan and kef have slim on the wall speakers, the others are mainly in wall. Looking for recommendations on what I would have to get to beat my current setup.

Im going to try really hard to incorporate the sub because that thing kicks so hard, I love it. I want a 2nd one haha, just limited space. I currently run a auro 3d speaker setup and have the auro 3d upgrade but will probably switch to a in ceiling atmos configuration. There will be no table anymore, just new seating. Probably a 3 or 4 person theater couch in the middle with some movie theater seats against the back wall for some more seating. So probably 6 to 8 seats, primary listening position will be shifted forward as the theater couch will be almost in the middle of the room. I also plan on some acoustic mods.

Any thoughts on speakers in wall vs on wall, auro setup vs atmos setup, brands/modes whatever you guys think. No budget really.

Thanks

A crap shoot but I'd go with whichever one makes the cabinet speaker that sounds best to your ears with the hope that sound "signature" will be reflected in their in wall speaker.

I think KEF in walls might have the best shot at providing really good sound quality. They seem to follow the accepted design approach for building neutral speakers with good sound quality.
I’d stay away from on walls. Well designed speakers need adequate cabinet volume. You can’t get this with 1” thin on wall speakers. Might as well get a sound bar

As to which speakers to choose, you will have to go listen to all the options and decide which you like best. There are limited choices at BB, so it should be relatively easy. If you can't hear the in-wall version of a speaker, then listen to the bookshelf with the same or similar configuration.

Do be aware that open back in-wall speakers radiate the same amount of sound energy into the wall cavity as they do the room. This could result in the sound traveling through the structure to other areas. If this is a concern, you may wish to use a speaker with an integrated back box, to reduce the sound transmission.

As to Atmos, it seems Dolby has won the battle for the 3rd dimension in movies, so adhering to those specs would be best. Consult the Dolby site for configuration diagrams, paying special attention to the angles associated with each speaker in the mix.

Be sure that your couch is not at the exact center (or 3/4 point) of the room (as measured to your seated ears), as that will engender some severe issues in the bass region. Be slightly forward or rearward of these positions, and let the sub crawl (i.e. best bass response) decide which is the best option.

Lastly, the front 3 speakers should be the focus. The rest are far less important, and the budget should be allocated accordingly.

The RTia have a forward sound. The B&W, Definitive, Kef, Sonance, ML brands should be able to give you that same forward sound with a precise presentation. Its just a matter of what speakers are going to sound better to your ears. Have you been able to demo the in/on wall speakers? Also, there's a wide range of prices...whats your budget? Can you guys get the Mythos Ten, Nine, Seven, etc at discount or are your choices limited to just what BB carries online/in stock?

So, no budget really - does that mean you're not absolutely married to having to buy from BB? Great to get a discount, but if you don't have to rely on that, I'd look into to Totem Acoustic Tribe line for either in/on-wall (esp. on wall), and Paradigm for in-wall. The brands you do have available to you through BB though can get you something good.
