I am looking for a bookshelf system with matching center channel to go with Sony 52XBR4. I want the center channel to be less than 5.5" tall.

I think the Def tech Procinema 1000's fit the bill. Any other choices?

Scrap the center and use only the Fronts in 2.1 mode?

I have a sub. I replaced a Klipsch RT-12D with 2 JL F113's in my main HT. I will now use the RT-12D with the speakers.

I want mainly monitors to put on my TV stand. I don't want floor standers. This set-up is in my Living Room. My wife doesn't want large speakers abound.

Budget is variable. I would like to stay below $2500.

any size restrictions? width? depth?

are you going to do surround sound? or is it just basically a front soundstage, just looking for something a lot better than the TV speakers but not the full blown 5.1 setup? If you aren't doing surround sound, and it sounds like the two L/R speakers will be fairly narrowly placed on either side of a stand, IMHO no need for a center.

Just get a nice 2.1 setup, if the L/R speakers are flanking the TV you will get very nice imaging of the center. Get a really nice pair of bookshelf/monitor speakers that fit the space and your aesthetics -- with that budget you can afford some very nice bookshelf speakers so your best bet will be to go listen to some, as there are just zillions of options in the generic "less than 2 grand" category!

Batpig poses good questions - what are you using this for? Blurays? Gaming? Just watching the news at night?

That's quite the contradiction - a $2500 budget for 2 or 3 speakers and considering DefTech ProMonitor 1000

Once you answer the size restrictions, you'll get some good suggestions.

We need more information, but I'll throw a few options out there. Orb Audio, Mirage Nanosats, and Aperion 4 series.

+1 on the Era D4. One of the best small speakers that doesn't sound like it is a small speaker. I own the slightly bigger D5, but used to own the D4 (still use them as surrounds). Check out some of the reviews.
