I have a room of approx 1000sq ft and I will have 3 rows of seating.


I have built large soffits that go around the room and are approximately 9 feet away from the center of the room.


* What are your thoughts on using 9.2 vs 7.2? is it worth it?


* Should I place the speakers in the soffits facing into the room or the ceiling?


* Should I use in-walls or bookshelf mounted as in-walls (bookshelf sort of has it's own backer box)


* What are your recommendations for speakers in the $150-$250 each range?

If you mount bookshelf speakers in a bookshelf or in a cove then try to get a set that is sealed or has the port on the front. It is possible for you to plug a rear port since lower frequencies are usually cutoff by your receiver.


I think most DVD's are still 5.1 with the newer Blu-Ray standards of 7.1. So it's just my opinion 9.2 won't add much in the average HT room. If it's practical for you to spend a little extra on another set of speakers then go for it.


I wouldn't put speakers in the soffits I'd mount them lower on the wall or inwall not much higher than ear level.

The sensitivity and directionality of a horn loaded tweeter is ideal for HT.

I DO NOT have the ability to mount the surrounds on the walls. They must go in the ceiling or soffits.


I am willing to spend up to $500 a pair for speakers....
