I have completed (with a great deal of help from this site) an amazing home Theater.

I want to upgrade to Atmos but have concerns with the ceiling speaker installation.

When I built the theater i sound proofed extensively:

Acoustic track isolation
OSB
2 layers of drywall with green goo

And it works great

Here's my concern. The ceiling is now so thisck i'm concerned that most in-ceiling speaker mounts will not work and secondly, I spent a lot of time isolating the theater. If I cut holes and mount in-ceiling speakers all that work and expense is for nothing since I cannot put a back box.

I've looked for a sufavce mount option but have not found anything.

Hoping the collective wisdom here can give me some guidance...

Right now I plan to build boxes for in-ceiling speakers i can mount and only penetrate the soundproofing for speaker wire.

Thanks for the info and links!

This method should look OK since I have some wood bulkheads housing lighting , etc which I can blend into...hopefully.
