figure this might be a better place to ask this-

I have an xbox 360 and right now it does HDTV component to my tv.

but i would also like to record what i'm doing via my pc and the only way it accepts the video signal is if i put it down to non HD mode and i just can't play like that lol

so my question is what kind of cheap methods could i use to get HD component to regular old composite?

If you step down to NTSC composite why bother with the component source?

Once stored on your HDD what do you plan to do with the video files? Are you planning to burn them out as standard dvd?

Capture to your pc should be highest quality to the HDD. There are video cards that will allow HD transfer to HDD as .avi. Capturing in a higher quality will allow you to render as higher quality.

There are internal video cards that you can add to your PC that will have external buss or dongle that will accept component and dv source output and until more is posted about your application I would suggest a low end capture card.

Best of Luck
