We are replacing our 51" CRT rear projector which has about died. Would really like to get a plasma but our room has a lot of light during the day (from window) and when we watch at nights we always have some lights on. Also, we tried our bedroom 32" Vizio plazma in this room and it got a terrible reflection, so our best option is going to be an LCD.

So far I am leaning towards either a Sony or Samsung 52" 1080p and 120hz. We will never have it hooked to our computer nor will it be used for games. We are just looking for a dependable tv with a good quality picture thats not hard to adjust.

Would appreciate some suggestions as to the best set to buy for just watching sports and movies and one that will not have a reflection or glare problem.

Thanks for the help.

You have to go to a local store and look at possible choices. Some have glare, others less or none. Sony and Samsung are both excellent. Your price point will determine what features are available on the tv. When you have narrowed it down to two or three, come back to this forum and search for the Owner's Thread on the tv model and you will get more info. But I can tell you, overall, either brand's 1080p tv will work well for sports and movies, 120Hz is good to have. I personally prefer Samsung.

The Samsung B750 has 240hz and is a top choice among many people. But I don't know about the glare factor.

Wife and I recently (3-4 months ago) bought an LCD made by Sony (last years model KDL52w4100, I think). The one we bought has an anti-glare (maybe called matte) screen. We love it. Our rear projection Mitsu that we had before had so much glare that we almost could not see the picture during daylight hours (two windows, sliding glass door and room opens out--i.e., no wall-- on fourth wall). Our room is very bright in day light hours. But with the matte screen, we have much, much less glare than before. It also has a very wide viewing angle which the mits did not have.

I would certainly check out one with an anti-glare screen. Can't go wrong.
