I recently pickuped a Yamaha RX-V465 and am slightly disappointly by the sound. I switched from a Panasonic SA-HE100K. I was using the opitcal out from my PS3 and 360 into it and it sounded great. The main reason I switched was to use the HDMI port. For some reason the volume is not very great and it seems like it is not decoding properly. If any one has any suggestions that can help please do. Oh, forgot to mention I am using a JBL Northridge 5.1 setup.

The 465 is a budget receiver using Sanyo chip amps, and a low powered supply. So it's possible it's bit underpowered.

As for not decoding properly, I find that hard to believe.

Play some rock music on a rock station using the FM tuner, set the volume to -20 dB, and tell me what the SPL is at your listening position. I will tell you if I think your SPL is normal or not.

I will do that tomorrow. Unfortunately there are no good rock stations around. Would a CD or iPod do?

Pick up a Denon 1610/590. It has Audyssey and a better amp section at the same price point.
