Hey,

I've had my 1st HT system for 2 years now and I can finally afford to upgrade,I have an Infinity HTS-12 5.1 speakers and a Harmon Kardon AVR 125 receiver.

I don't really have a price range...I would prefer something with GREAT value for the dollar but to make it easier I won't go above 1,000$ I may but not too much over it.

I want a setup that will DESTROY my current HTS-12 and my receiver, and to clear things up its 1,000$ for the speaker alone I'll go as high as 600$ for receiver....I don't care if its old or used or even if you found something on audiogon, post it :)

Oh yeah I'm willing to build a system if its cheaper and better as well.

Thanks alot,

-V-

There are a plethora of options available for you to choose from that will get you great sound quality for your price range. Can you supply more details on your situation. How much room do want your HT setup to take up? Are you looking for a 5.1 or 7.1 setup? What kind of features are you looking for in a receiver ( HDMI up conversion, component video up conversion, etc)? Do you care if your speakers are bulky, thin, etc? But just to give you a quick answer without knowing anything else other than your budget, I would recommend going with this setup because I don’t think you will be disappointed with this killer setup:

SVS SBS-01 5.1Set System - $899 ( What you get in this set from SVS is arguably the best 10" sub available and five high quality speakers that will work harmoniously with the SVS10" sub to give you dynamite sound quality for both music and TV/movie watching).

Pioneer 1015TX - $429 (There are plenty of quality receivers in the market that you can choose from such brands like HK, Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer, etc. Ultimately, it all depends on what you features you are looking for in a receiver to have, but I don’t think you can go wrong if you choose the Pioneer 1015TX receiver)

I would prefer wall mountable speakers but I'm open to mid towers,I have roughly 12x12 room space this is not a dedicated HT room its my room...with bed tv and PC projector all here,I will mainly use it for music fed from my PC and games and then TV...sometimes radio.

I would like to upgrade to 6.1 or 7.1 it doesn't really matter I could just add an extra speaker to make it 6/7.1 any ways :)

Thanks for the post I will review the models you reccomended.
Hey what do you think about the POLK 6900?

For half the price of the Polk 6900, the Athena Micra 6 speaker system sounds just as good as the Polk 6900 setup. If you wish to spend that much money on small speakers and a sub setup all in one package from the same company, go with the Paradigm Cinema series instead. You get much more bank for you buck than if you went with the Polk 6900 setup. Considering that the SVS SBS-01 5.1 set system retails for $899 and the Polk 6900 setup that you were interested in costs $800, the difference between the both in terms of sound quality is like night and day. In fairness, it’s not even considered a fair fight considering the size of the SVS speakers compared to the Polk 6900 speakers, but considering the price of both systems, it’s almost a no-brainer to go with the SVS 5.1 setup or the Paradigm Cinema series instead of the Polk 6900 setup. Also, what kind of features are you looking for in a receiver?

Thats hard to answer...that Pioneer you recommended looks good enough,I basicly want a receiver to be TWICE as better than what I have now and I'd like a receiver to have auto off timer so after I sleep it turns off by itself and I've been hearing alot about "upconverting" I'd like that...and finally a receiver with clear antenna for FM radio...although I doubt any have one lol.

I've found the Micra 6 on ebay for 300$ thats about the SAME price I paid for my HTS-12s I'm hesitant it won't be that much better than my current setup at that price range.
Honestly, there probably won’t be a HUGE noticeable difference in sound quality between the Athena Micra 6 system and the Infinity HTS-12 system that you have now, but there would be a HUGE noticeable difference in sound quality between the SVS SBS-01 5.1 set compared to the Infinity HTS-12 system that you have now considering the how excellent the SVS 10†sub is and the superb sound quality that the SVS speakers produce. For your budget and needs, I don’t think you can go wrong in choosing the Pioneer 1015TX and SVS SBS 5.1 set to fulfill your HT dreams.
Alright then SVS it is :)

Plus the Micra is 75W RMS sub and mine is 150 RMS so this would be a step down :(

BTW what do you think about the VSX-2012?
Sounds like a good plan. If you change your mind, DO NOT pay $300 for the Micras on E-bay. They can be found for cheaper, new.
