My brother is currently looking for a subwoofer for his HT and I've suggested that he goes down the DIY route.

His budget is $400 (including wood and driver). I will give him my Behringer EP2500 and DCX2496.

His current HT consists of a Panasonic XR-55 Receiver and Klipsch Heresy for LRC.

My suggestion for him was to possibly build a TH sub to keep up with the efficient for his Klipsch Heresys (99db sensitivity).

Any thoughts?

with the stereo integrity subs on closeout, a pair of the dual 4 ohm drivers, wired for 2 ohms each would match well to the amp that you are kindly giving to your brother.

a pair of martysubs allow them to perform at about their max possible. that would give some pretty big low end in a relatively simple build.

lilmike's f20 could be another option as would his lilwrecker. both of those are low cost, horn subs. tht would be fine too.
