HI,


I have a supercube III at present which has died on me, I am looking for a new subwoofer, the ones I have seen are Martin Logan Dynamo 500, Paradigm DSP-3100. Just wanted to get an idea and learn a little if between the two which would be a good option. My price Limit is around $500. Its for a medium sized room. Any other recommendations in this range. Or should I just get another supercube III.

Welcome to the forum. Look around a little on the various subwoofer threads here on AVS and you will see there are alot of Internet Direct manufactures that build some really good subs. Then if you are still interested in the Brick and Mortar types subs then you should go and listen to them and decide for yourself which sounds better to you.

Do you have room for something considerably larger? Small subs sacrifice performance unless you have $$$ to spend, like a Sunfire.

I doubt room is an issue, but not avery large subwoofer

Do you have size, finish, etc constraints, or any other possible WAF related issues?


If not, for $500 you can get a much better sub from an ID company than the subs you listed.

All good recommendations. The SVS PB-10 NSD will play much deeper and louder than the Martin Logan and Paradigm. It will give you serious response to 20 Hz.


If it is mostly for music, then something sealed will sound better, but for HT, the PB-10 will bring you stuff you haven't been getting.

Hsus are good for music. I have a Hsu STF-2 and it was absolutely superb with the 4-6 large drums in the grand finale and closing credits of the movie Fame. The STF-2 is around $360 plus shipping because it is on sale presently.


The VTF2 and VTF1 are both good upgrades from the STF-2.

The Paradigm DSP-3100 you mentioned is actually quite good for both music and HT. I had one for a while before I upgraded to a Rythmik F12. And if you have multiple dealers in your area you can negotiate a decent discount - with discounts you may be able to get a DSP-3200.


You may also want to look at the new SVS SB-12NSD on special now for $550.

I would take a 3200, but that's me.


I have heard the 3100 and know that the 3200 would reach deeper/louder. I have never heard the supercube.


Have you heard both? With your own test material?


Of course, unless you hear them in the same space, level matched and DBT all you will really be able to tell is if you like each of them individually.


If you have heard both, are really impressed with both, buy the one that is the best deal.

Did hear both, the supercube II is perfect for size, sounds almost similar but that punch or feel is missing.

The Paradigm DSP-3200 has more punch ofcouurse being a 12" woofer and ported but seems too big. Confused

Do you look into that SVS SB12-NSD? It sure looks tempting

Got the Paradigm Dsp-3200 , it is definitely very punchy and loud, even at low volume great punch. Will try it out and see if its a keeper. Big enclosure though.
