Last year, I went on a spending spree and bought Focal Sopra No3s, a VAC 2 signature 200iq, Naim pre-amp/streaming audio player, great turntable and some other gear. While it’s great stuff, the Focals are really too big (physically and too much sound) for my room. Also, I’ve made the unfortunate mistake of not pricing in money for home theater, and my puny TV sound is terrible. I don’t have a center channel now and I’m regretting my purchase. I wish I bought smaller and less expensive speakers, and a center speaker so I could hook up my older Marantz so I could have at least 3.1 for my TV. Can anyone give me advice on what to do now? I’m thinking about selling my Focals and buying something less expensive along with a matching center - maybe seeing if a home theater or high end audio store will take my Focals as a trade in since they’re almost new, for something like the Magico A3s. I’m just hoping someone has done what I did and has an idea. I can also sell the Focals on Audiogon. I suppose I could just sell/trade the speakers and get a high end sound bar, but I doubt that’ll ever be as good as even a 3.1 set up. Anyway, I’d be grateful for any ideas. Thanks!

You're probably going to lose a ton of money reselling them. Focal has a matching center (don't know the cost though I'm sure it's expensive).

What size room/how close do you sit/what are your listening preferences, and how physically large is too large for a speaker for your space? Are you opposed to on-wall speakers?

Until you decide to sell on Audiogon, or see what a local dealer will give you, I would assume with the proper hook ups, you can listen to the tv sound in stereo mode through the Focals. I have a feeling it will sound a whole lot better than through the tv speakers.:)

There’s always the Aria line or Kanta line

Of course you can always go in a different direction speaker wise. I get the feeling that amps gonna be a challenge to sell tho.

Like others have said, you’d probably lose a lot of money if you sold those speakers. I’d keep them, and find a good center to match...looks like the matching Focal center is $3500. You could also go with something cheaper, yet still excellent, like the Ascend Acoustics Sierra Horizon or perhaps a custom job by someone like Jim Salk or Rick Craig. You could then sell the electronics in favor of a good but cheaper surround pre-amp/amp combo.

Other option is put all for sale and see what you get offered.

You're going to be losing out on sound quality and as mentioned some financial loss. Smaller bookshelf speakers may be more appropriate for your space. How far down you want to go is up to you .
