I am the former owner of a Davis DL-450 projector, and would like to know how the X1 compares to it on several points.


1/ Rainbow effect

More, less or equally noticeable ?


2/ Screendoor effect

Same question.


3/ 480p/i display

The unofficial X1 FAQ provided me with the answer I was looking for.

The X1 has a mode where it will center on-screen the 480p/i signal and do a 1:1 pixel mapping.

Which is what the Davis does and what I was looking forward to.


I suppose that the X1 blows the DL-450 away in luminosity and contrast, but feel free to add any comment about comparing the two devices !

I was thinking up upgrading my DL-450, but after working with Davis tuner I managed to increase the contrast and picture quality greatly, it is really worth a try before you upgrade.

If you can tolerate the rainbow, the X1 makes a better picture. The greater contrast ratio contributes to that. Also has better, more saturated color.

As i former Dl450 owner i can say, that the sound coming from the dl450, does the difference. The DL450 is loud, very loud. Tried building a hushbox, but i didn't work and looked stupid.

I don't think that the X1 is a better pj, but it is more silent. I went for the AE300 and i'm a happy guy now.

If you insist on DLP then wait a few month an see if something new comes around

I preformed the DL-450 noise mod, and it made a difference. If you are brave it is something to think about.

Dam .. That could be a showstopper point for me.

I could already notice them on the DL-450.

If it really is much worse on the X1, I may not be able to bear with it. *sigh*
