just in case a wad of money fell on my lap

which would be a better setup in a 3500 cu.ft. room?

a Velodyne DD18 doing 50-80hz

and dual subwoofers (ported svs ultras) doing 10-50hz

OR

a Velodyne DD15 doing 50-80hz

and a Velodyne DD18 doing 15-50hz

EDIT: usage

is purely HT (in a dedicated room)

50-80hz sub will be nearfield

ported subs will have an SMS-1

pros and cons:

the first setup is a mix of ported and sealed subs - I don't know how that's gonna turn out

the ported subwoofers have 13.5" woofers which MIGHT not be recommended for 10hz tuning in a big room

those are good opinions I haven't contemplated yet ... keep them coming

I have to add though that there will be an SMS-1 in the mix in case the ported subs are added

oh I forgot to add that whatever sub is doing 50-80hz will be nearfield

Depending on how big the wad is, I would do dual 15s or dual 18s and have no need for the SMS-1. Why have to work at blending dissimilar subs when it's not necessary.

I already have the DD18 and the WAD would be around 3000 bucks, which makes dual ultras or a single DD15 within the budget

(and I already have the SMS-1)

If you already have an SMS-1 and size is not your number 1 priority, I would drop the DD out of the running.

That's just me.

Sell the SMS-1. Take the money you make, add it to the $3K you already have, and get another DD-18. Run them both full-range, (15 to 80 Hz), like craigsub said, even if one is nearfield.

Trying to do an MBM type of thing with a sub not designed for it is probably not a good idea. If you want to do that, just get an MBM.

I have no access to any HSU products ... I'm not in the US

the sms-1 can be moved to another system if not for this HT. (in fact I have two SMS-1's coming)

it's just that the DD15 is ex-stock ... and I waited 3-4 months for my 1st DD18
