Netflix Atmos devices

Anyone here know if there is development underway to increase the number/choice of devices that can support Atmos from Netflix?

I have tried asking Netflix support several times but the representatives do not understand what I am asking. So I am hoping someone here might know. I suspect the number of devices will be expanded but at what date - and can it be done via firmware updates or is it hardware related and will take new device releases?

I could be wrong but I don't think anyone here has inside information on what devices are adding Atmos support. Is there a particular device you want?

No specific one. Right now, besides TVs, only the AppleTV4K and Xbox One system seem to do it. I have an AppleTV4K but have other problems with it and would like to return it, and I do not want to get an XboxOne and it has some other problems in streaming also form what I have read.

So I would like to have another choice and wondering of one will soon be released because ill return my AppleTV unit and wait for it. One would think there might be but Atmos is probably not a priority for Netflix nor streaming device makers so there might not be anytime soon.
Are you aware of this list? The Panasonic UB820 UHD player also supports Netflix ATMOS

Thanks. I had seen post indicating it does but it is not officially listed I do not think. Some posters respond it does but Panasonic denies it is supposed to do Atmos on Netflix. It is more than I want to pay though.

Are you sure Netflix produces Atmos on XB1 system?
I haven't followed XB1 news for a while but from what I've seen so far, XB1 decodes and sends out Atmos no matter what the source input is.
Meaning your AVR always shows Atmos even though source isn't.

No experience with it but Xbox One various editions are listed on Netflix as officially Atmos capable.

I was just mentioning that the Panasonic is an additional Netflix Atmos device, that is not listed on that list. I own it and can confirm that it does output Netflix Atmos.

The Netflix Xbox app supports ATMOS properly. I think what you're referring to is that the Xbox Netflix app forces HDR, even for SDR content.

If it's the case, it's good news for all Netflix users.

What I meant was M$ never implements true bitstream audio in the XB1.
Instead of passing the signal through, it decodes and sends Atmos out in all cases.

I don't have my Xbox One S anymore but when I did, I was able to set audio to bitstream and let the AVR do the decoding. That was the only way for me to get ATMOS (including disc ATMOS)

tinhvo is correct. They've since changed it since you had it and now EVERYTHING comes out in Atmos, no matter what your settings are. However, if your system is like mine, you'll be able to tell and distinguish the difference between non-Atmos and true Atmos sources.

Disc Atmos was working (and hopefully still is) properly 'cuz the player app has its own settings which overwrites the system audio settings.
I'm pretty sure that XB1 never has true bitstream from day 1.
Yes, you can set bitstream (or whatever name M$ decides to use) but it isn't passing through signal from the source.
tinhvo is correct. They've since

Wow, that reinforces my decision to get rid of the XB1S

Just curious, what is it about your system that enables you to separate ATMOS and non ATMOS sources?

Does it require trained ears or else? Please elaborate your trick.
I don't want to climb up the ladder and get my ear next to one of the front-height speakers to verify the sound :)
I bet my Yammy AVR indicates all 7 channels are actively engaged.

I probably mistyped that before thinking about it... I believe it just might be me.

I was reminded of many a time when I'd hear anomalies in a music file or a movie and my buddy would look at me like I was crazy after replaying it for the umpteenth time.

However, I think those with discerning ears can distinguish between the discrete object sounds and those that are merely up-mixed as the dynamics are non-existent in the latter and the sound stage is more separated and more grand in the former. Dolby Atmos isn't just height channels... if done correctly, which many mixes do not, it should follow objects throughout the 3D soundstage, not merely track through a specific speaker. Essentially, it is ATMOSpheric audio!

Got it. My ears are not as good or as discerning, I use DTS Neural X as my default audio setting
