I've been using Netflix for over a year now & I pay $35.00 for 8 movies a month. I believe it is now $39.00 for 8 movies a month but I was grandfathered in.

I to love the service. I even swap movies with friends to get more bang for the buck.

the 4/month was $15 and if you joined then that is still all you pay.

They do run short of new releases quite often and The return time is much worse than it was before. When it started you could put your movie in the mail, click I sent it on the web site and cross ship movies. It was easy to get 16 movies in and out in a month. Now I do good to get 8 traded out and it is usually more like 4 which makes the price comparable to BlockBuster, but I don't have to take the movies back and there are no late fees.

I, too am a satisfied NetFlix user and have been a member since before the advent of the "unlimited" rental service. However, they bumped me off the $15 rate and said that everyone was being moved to $19.95 for 4 movies. That's what I pay now. I have not noticed a slowdown in movie turn-around but they did change the "I mailed it" feature. Now they ask you to not use that feature unless it has been 3 or more days(I think) since you mailed the movie back.

Just today on their home page, I noticed that the "standard" package now allows you to have THREE movies out at a time. Hope I don't get "upgraded to that package! http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/frown.gif

I am sure this is off the subject of this board but I also have netflix. The problem is they have been out of stock on some of the new releases I want. My top 4 movies were out of stock. I finally had to go to a local store to rent it. They have been out of stock for over a week. I think the concept is fine but it is being misused now. There are probably people sitting on all the movies I want to see while I wait for them to come back in stock. There should be a 2 week limit on the movies or something to that effect. Al

Markito, are you sure Netflix still allows you to tell them when you've dropped a DVD in the mail, so they'll ship the next one? I think they dropped this some time ago. I saw it as a reduction in service - prior I could have six DVD's in my pipeline, but only 4 in the home. After, I could have only 4 in the entire pipeline. I'm in the unlimited rentals for $20 plan, but I may drop it because we're watching fewer DVD's now that we have the ReplayTV (and TiVo too). I'll hook up for timeshifting DVD's with the ReplayTV soon, and see if I like that better because their's less latency in the pipeline and I can see more movies. My original economic analysis of the Netflix option did not account for watching as many old movies as we have; these are discounted at Blockbuster. We watch some because the new releases are out of stock, and some just to fill in the classics and movies we missed years ago.

When I had NetFlix, I liked it. But, there are so many good movies on TV that I have never watched, I just use ReplayTV to grab them for free. Don't even have to leave the couch. http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif

Because of my personal convictions and the fact that I have 2 toddlers running around the house, I would rather see movies "cleaned up" for TV anyway.

Netflix is great. For those of you who don't watch that many movies, they also offer a reduced price $12/month plan with 2 movies out at a time instead of 4. Turnaround time isn't a problem with me because I don't watch all the movies in one marathon; typically I have two in the mail and two at home. By the time I finish watching the two at home the replacements for the first two have arrived.

Movies on TV -- bah! Edited for time. Edited for content. Broken up by commercials (even w/ quickskip, still breaks the flow). Pan & butchered. No DD 5.1 sound. Picture not as sharp & noise free. Vs. pay channels, Netflix gives much better selection and has new releases sooner, even with the out-of-stock issues. Even though my top choices have been out of stock for a couple weeks, I still have plenty of movies that I want to see; the wait for the new titles doesn't bother me, as long as they have something I want to watch.

I see a running theme here - 3 young kids here. Actually SITCOM - Single Income, Three Children, Outrageous Mortgage. I figured most ReplayTV customers would be Yuppies.

There was: They touted it as "X free rentals" (can't recall the number), but the offer was really a "One Free Month of Service" from NetFlix.

FYI- NetFlix allows you to rent DVDs by mail: you choose the DVDs, they send them to you, and when you're done, you send them back in a pre-paid envelope. You pay $20/month (which includes all the shipping costs), and you can rent as many as you like and keep them as long as you like, the catch being you can only have four out at a time. Each time you return one, they send you the next DVD on your list.

So the offer I got was a free month of service from NetFlix. And honestly, I'm a big fan of their service at the moment. I travel a lot, and so I couldn't always return DVDs to the store in time and had to pay late fees. This way, I keep them as long as I want, can drop them in the return mail from anywhere, and know exactly how much its going to cost me. I hated always going in to Blockbuster to rent something, and then being told "You owe $6.23 in late fees" which I couldn't dispute because it was 3 weeks after the fact...

As to where the promotion went (it used to be from registering your unit), I can't say, it's just gone. But you might be able to get the same offer direct from NetFlix or elsewhere....

I really like NetFlix as well. They have a larger selection than my local BlockBuster and if you can rent 4 movies a month, then the cost is the same as going to Blockbuster four time. If you rent more, then you get more movies even cheaper.

I've never had a problem with them and I've been using the service about five months.

Also you can select movies that have not been released for you queue and when they are released, they will be shipped to you. Very nice feature.

I love Netflix too but don't watch quite enough movies to justify another $20 a month for their service. But when I did, it was a terrific service with a HUGE selection and prompt shipping. BTW: the free month is to anyone, just visit the site and they offer it.

I can't say enough great things about Netflix.

If something isn't available at Netflix - it's probably because it's not yet available on DVD. (Can your local Blockbuster say that?)

I've raved about Netflix at work - and three of my coworkers signed up -and they all love it as much as I do. (And, no, I don't get any referral bonus - too bad!)
