Anyone notice the similarity of the color themes between Netscape 6

and Replay TV? Just a coincidence?.....will I see this color scheme EVERYWHERE soon.....or.....am I the only one still using Netscape?

I use Netscape at home, I was thinking the same thing about the schemes a few days ago. I thought it was my eyes playing tricks on me tho.

At least they haven't started making Replay boxes out of clear blue plastic. Yet.

Well, mine isn't thru AT&T, it's thru Bell Atlantic (well, Verizon now)...it's supposed to be ready for me on Wed. so I'll let you know.

I've heard good and bad about Bell Atlantic so I am 50-50 on whether it'll be a good experience or not.

There's a website (can't think of the name) that lets you put in your address and it'll tell you how far you are from the switching station.

Oh...and I was also told different stories by different companies a little while ago. Here's what I was able to figure out. I'm pretty sure that all DSL will have to come from your phone company in some regard...but you could buy from a reseller - like Telocity or something. Now...your house might be "elegible" from the phone company directly...but maybe the reseller hasn't negotiated to resell houses in your neighborhood or something.

So...while you might live close enough, you still might not be eligible with *some* companies. And...the reason they might give you is "you're too far from the switching station" could just be a line.

I don't know if that's happening w/ you but maybe!

I'll keep you informed...

I am in the "process' of trying to order DSL myself. I say try because AT&T has told me that I do not reside close enought to a central switching station to be eligible. I have been told otherwise by another company, so I am in a wait-and-see mode right now. I would be very interested to hear of your experience with the whole process. I know this is not the forum for such discussions...and if you know of any forums that are as good as this one where people are discussing such matters; a link would be sincerely

appreciated. I have found this to be far and away one of the best spots on the internet for good sharing of info and opinions (albeit very specific

subjects).

Re: Netscape, I have discovered only very recently that (stupid me) I am using the "inferior" browser.......I find it to be great, and I was very excited to read about the upcoming release. I admire your courage in going ahead and installing the "preview" copy....please let us know how that is going as well. I am a bit more cowardly myself.

Well, Wed. we lost power so I couldn't hook up the DSL.

Thurs. (today) I found out my "activation date" was pushed back until Nov. 7th from Nov. 1st.

So, no DSL yet.

And on using Netscape 6 BETA - I've had no major problems - nothing that would affect my system...just some weird occurances w/in the browser itself.

While you are on these things, I thought I would "brag" that after 8 years of 26.4 max, I got my ATT @home yesterday and now speed along about 2.5 meg. Wow Owo wow

FYI:

I installed the final Netscape 6 this week - and uninstalled it a few days later.

It's awful on my home PC - and using it as default and as mail program.

I have a 200MHz which is fine for my purposes...Netscape took over 45 sec to load...sometimes taking up to 10 seconds to open a new mail message! Plus very common features like Managing Bookmarks was completely buggy.

Be warned.

Oh...DSL is expected this Wed. Cross your fingers for me! http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif

Just an OT update.

Nov. 22 came and went w/o my DSL connection. They're now saying "5 to 7 days".

Nov. 1 - nope

Nov. 8 - nope

Nov. 22 - nope

Nov. 29 - we'll see

Considering Verizon DSL in your area? I'd advise against it...

Thanks for all the updating, guys!

I have an order quote-unquote with Covad using Bazillion since October 20.

Absolutely no word from anyone....kind of sounds like this is par-for-the-course. Thanks for sharing, 'cause I do tend to take this things so personally <grin>.

Plugging away here on a 266 mghtz ....don't think I will "jump" into Net 6 quite yet.

Thanks again!

You don't even want to hear my Verizon DSL horror story. Suffice to say they are all a bunch of clueless, careless, stupid people. I really don't know how such a large company can just suck so very badly. However, now that I got it and it's working good, things are great. But I dread the day I have to call for support or troubles or something.

I think this pretty much sums up Verizon's incompetence:

On Nov. 22 when I tried to install (for the third time) I had to call Tech Support. They told me "5 to 7 days".

No more than two hours after hanging up with them I got an email from Customer Service telling me (remember: this email was sent on 11/22) that my service would be ready on 11/10.

HUH??

I am trying desperately to get in touch with the individual who specifically sent me that email because he's getting a stern talking to! http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/wink.gif

I had to order it three times. The first one they lost, and the second one they put on the wrong phone line (I have two and the whole point of DSL was that I can get rid of the second modem line). When I told them they added it to a line that was never even mentioned in the conversation, that they screwed up royally, they said the best they could do was to submit a new order for the proper line, and I'd have to wait the full 30 days for it to be installed again. After all was said and done, it was almost a full three months from the day I first ordered DSL before I actually got it. MO-rons.

Well, they pushed 11/29 back to 12/1 - but just for kicks I gave it a try this morning and it was ready! So, I'm all set!
