In preparation for the introduction of the new Sony 11HT (and presumably in anticipation of competition from the Sanyo PLV-60) Sony has resumed the $300 rebate on the 10HT (through May 31) as well as the discounted selling price to their dealers.


My question to Sony 10HT owners: Is the contrast and black level really that bad? I am very tempted to buy a 10HT at a "bargain" price, unless the new models are truly significantly better.


With the rebate, I can purchase the 10HT from a Sony authorized dealer for $4650. I imagine that either the 11HT or the Sanyo will sell for at least $1000-$1500 more. Any advice and suggestions from 10HT owners will be much appreciated.

If you have controlled lighting and do a proper configureation in the service menu then the blacks are not an issue. That is not to say that there are still not reasons to wait, while my 10HT looks great except for a dead blue pixel, my friends has a very noticeable green tint to it and we are in the process of trying to fix it before he takes it back.

I talked to studio experience this morning and was told there were no deals and the price was $6199. I told them that other dealers were still around $5199 and they wouldn't budge. Disappointing after all the good things I have heard about them.

If you plan to keep your new projector for 3 or more years, then I would wait for something better than the Sony 10ht (I tried one). But if you plan on upgrading again in the next year or so, the Sony will do fine.
