I got my new 3060 yesterday (had to chase the UPS man down, he wasn't about to get away ;-) ) and was amazed at how smooth everything was. The phone splitter allowed the 3060 to share a line with my computer modem, even when the surge protector they connect through is off. There were THREE local phone #'s, the initial download took like 10 minutes (!), and all the onscreen information was easy to follow. The only stumbling block was that there was no sound, and the manual informed me that S-video does picture only, so I just needed to use the red and white RCA plugs for the sound. Once that was ironed out, I set it to record Monday Night Football, plus the two 1/2 hour programs immediately following it.

When I played back later that evening (time delayed-the game had been on for 90 minutes already) things were great until the ReplayTV got to the end of the actual Monday Night Football program. The game wasn't actually over, there were 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, but I had set to record the next program, too. When I started this program, they were almost 6 minutes into the 4th quarter, and Wasington had scored 12 points! I went back to the MNF program in the Replay Guide, and it was listed as 2 hours 29 minutes! A look at the Channel Guide confirmed it was scheduled from 8-11 CST, three full hours. I went back to the end of the MNF program hoping the extra half hour would be there regardless, but it wasn't. What went wrong?

Can't answer this one, obviously this isn't the way it's supposed to work.

I would see what happens next week. There may have been something strange about the initial setup. One thing you'll find is that Replay will never record a partial show: if it can't record the whole thing because of a conflict, it won't record anything.

One other thing to consider: The time it shows in the display is not necessarily the amount recorded. Due to the encoding process, there's a little glitch in the time calculation. A 30 minute show will generally be shown as having recorded 29 minutes, though if you actually time it out you'll see that there is 30 minutes of program. So a two hour recorded program will say it's somewhere around 1 hour 56 minutes. That's obviously not a 30 minute discrepancy, but something to keep in mind.

Thanks jleavens,

I am pretty sure it was 2hrs 29 minutes because I went back to the begining and pressed 148 jump to get to the 2hr 28 minute mark. It played for a minute then stopped. Anyway, I discovered padding in the "More (recording) options" menu. Adding an extra hour should get it to record for 4 hours now, right? There aren't any scheduling conflicts on my unit.

To muddy the waters ...

pressing 148 jump would take you 1:48 into the recording ...

which you can verify by pressing display (look in the upper right corner) - in fact, you can use display at the blue screen after the show is finished too.

There are only two things that would explain a 3 hour show only recording 2.5 hours: power outage (replay picks up again when power is restored) or it lost the video signal for some reason (cable box shut off, cable went out, cable was unplugged, wrong switch switched, etc). When signal is lost, recording 'pauses' until it returns.

You're right skleiser, I guess I pressed 2 2 8 jump. Anyway, I jumped about 2 1/2 hours in and there was only about a minute left, so it only recorded 2:29.

I'm pretty sure everything is okay, 'cos I don't use a cable box, and I WAS watching the thing on time delay, so the power was fine. I've had absolutely no problems since then.

Also, I've tried to explain to people all week how my new toy works, but they don't seem to understand ("You mean it uses like a CD-ROM?"). When do you guys think these machines will really catch on? With such heavy advertising and product improvements, I'm predicting ReplayTV et. al will be the Playstation 2 of next year. Let's hope!
