Major CE brands including: Alpine, Arsenal, Clarion, Excelon, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, and Sony are shipping new HD Radio receivers to retailers.

National retailers like Best Buy and Wal-Mart, key regional retailers such as ABC Warehouse, Advanced Auto, Car Toys, Freeman’s and Fry’s and major online retailers like Amazon and Crutchfield are offering an assortment of new models.

On my end it never really stopped. Of course, we know nothing happens without cars. It takes a LONG time to get Detroit to go from paper to production on ANYthing. They're still making XM or Sirius radios, for Pete's sake. Maybe by 2018, they'll have radios that'll do both letting the car buyer choose. But I digress. Aftermarket has to at least have the same if not MORE features than factory. And, right now, the factory radios with HD will sound better than anything aftermarket. Well, ya can't have THAT and survive.

For me, the problem I see for the aftermarket world is a declining number of cars you can put aftermarket equipment IN. They all seem to be quite integrated with the car's electronics, not to mention uniquely shaped. Can't see Alpine making something that'll slap into the hole in my Caddy.

I have always ripped out the factory radios in my cars, in 2007 my Honda Civic Hybrid had 100 miles on it, and I replaced the entire audio system, and was glad I did it. Then in March 2012 I traded in on a Toyota Prius C-3 with the Entune system which includes HD Radio, I been driving this car for 39k miles so far and I have yet to think I need to sacrifice factory integration of conveniences so I can have a great sounding radio, I am very pleased with the Factory system. The only minor thing is I noticed that the newer HD radios now support Album Art, as I stated this is very minor. as for sound quality of my 2012 Entune system I am very pleased

Maybe it is time for me to start perusing the websites of major retailers and manufacturers. If new HD radios will be available by Christmas, they ought to be ready to go the day after Thanksgiving.

Gave $550 for my Denon 3312, $770 for my 3311; BOTH include HD Radio Tuners.
