I wonder if the anamorphic lens is removable, in case the user wishes to upgrade the projector someday. Otherwise, a G15 and a Panamorph (which is what this looks like) would seem to be a more modular investment.

Mark,

It looks like a Panamorph with a custom mount for the DILA lens.

This would be a great option as the Panamorph is challenging to mount.

Whatever it is, it looks slick.

Perfect alignment, no matter what earthquake zone you live in. :D

gages,

Why is the Panamorph so challenging to mount? It doesn't have to attach to the lens. It has its own stand - and you

can certainly create some type of base that you can screw the Panamorph base to.

Because the Panamorph is a prism - you even have some "slop" in its left-right positioning - unlike an ISCO - where you

need to "center" the lens both vertically and horizontally.

Glad you like the pics! I actually had a few more but I figured anyone not into the technology would be bored after 5 consecutive pics.

It is removable.

It is very substantially constructed (Aluminum Housing).

If you would like to see more images let me know! Unfortunately no picture can convey the image quality this package kicks out.

I wonder then if it will be available to existing projector users under any circumnstances at all (for example, if one buys an NRS).

This was brought up in the press conference held by Froudja. Faroudja emphatically stated that this was to be sold as a "package system" exclusively. Much to the chagrin of us all.

Hi Cmont

Do you have a screen shot?

Thats an interesting mount for the Panamorph and it would certainly have some advantages in certain situations. Got me thinking of looking at something similar with my new Dlp/Panamorph mounting. I certainly like the sealed method used here. Perhaps Mr Phelps might comment on the Panamorph being sealed in relationship to the lens ?

The faroudja rep also said they would be selling packages based on the 150cl and the QX1 (is that right? The really, really expensive one).

They described the anamorphic lens as "custom" for them and would also be available in long throw versions (I don't know if this only applied to the 150 and the QX1).

The hushbox is claimed to have an internal operating temperature 8 degrees lower than without one - although this seems unusual.

I tried multiple times but was unable, in all likelihood due to my inferior photography skills, to get a shot worth showing. I do have more shots of the panamorph though.

david

the panamorph casing was designed so that it can be removed and reinserted into the system without losing its positioning and alignment with the lens. That was their claim at least.

The hushbox features internal fans with thermostatic control that operate as an input/exhaust system. I believe it is this feature that allows it to have a lower internal operating temperature.

I am curious if they modified the scaler of the projector to avoid the problem common to the JVC D-ILAs when using the 4:3 AR on the 1080i source resolution.

I am sure that the picture is absolutely wonderful from this slick combination of products. I still have a hard time getting around their suggested retail for these things.

The nice part here is that another one of the bigger players seems to understand that D-ILA is worth the effort.

I suppose this makes more sense than Proceed's 27K (I think that was their price) for a supposedly select but mostly unmodified G15. That pricing seems out of line to me. Art

While I was taken back by the high price as well one of the points I made was that any enterprising fellow could accomplish similar results by purchasing said items separately. Of course the performance may not quite equal the Faroudja package but for less than half the price you could come damn close.

The Proceed offers little to no value. That thing is a glorified rebadge.

I am going the cheaper route with a calibrated G15, Faroudja, and Panamorph. All for about $13K.

TAW's product looks very similarly equipped to the new Faroudja but at a 19.5K list.
