Interesting, since I'm in the market for a 4k receiver for a complete HT overhaul. The Onkyo TX-NR7100 may just fit the bill, specs and price-wise. Hopefully these new models won't be a "late 2021 availability" thing.
SWEET! Dirac in the RZ line glad I didn't pull the trigger on that denon x4500.
So based on their history, do we assume these are the early released lower models and the 9, 11 and hopefully 13 channel big brothers are all coming later 2021?
I'm kinda doubting the specs as shown on the C|NET article, as they indicate new models up and down the list to have fewer channels than the models they replace. For example, the TX-NR797 is 9.2 channel but its logical replacement (TX-NR7100) is only 7.2? Highly unlikely.
My assumption is both the TX-NR7100 and the TX-RZ50 are 9-channel.
Yea thanks @RedHotFuzz, after actually reading it this time, it's weird to me that they put 7.2.2 but not 5.2.4 or at least mention that it can expand to 7.2.4 like the older rz730/740/830/840 and lx503/504.
This is the news I was waiting for. I was thinking about buying a NAD T758 V3i just for the Dirac Live. I felt that Audyssey hasn't changed in the last several years and wanted to try a different Room correction software. It is nice to see Onkyo coming up with Dirac. Looking forward to more details.
It's great to see something official after Dirac was announced for the Onkyo units months ago. They were the budget kings until the rampant HDMI board failures and Denon/Yamaha kinda took over from there. Now the big question is the cost. I'm guessing the Dirac license adds another $300-500 on units (pure speculation). Maybe this is a sign that Integra will also return to the market with their dedicated pre-pros.
No, you won’t see a $499 model with Dirac, but assuming the 7100 (with Dirac Live) is the model replacement for the 797 ($899), I doubt you will see a $300-500 price hike. Good luck to Onkyo if that’s the case.
At $1,199 it would directly compete with the Denon 4500H. That would represent the $300 price hike I'm speculating from the 797. And maybe with some Black Friday sales or refurb units, it might come down to the sub $700-$800 levels. And that'd be quite an interesting proposition for an entry unit with Dirac (base level with correction up to 400hz)

I hope this is a new start for Pioneer. They were incredible when they came on the scene with the Elite line way back when.
Hopefully these new receivers with Dirac will knock Denon back down a few rungs where it belongs, and I'm a Marantz owner.
Those look very intriguing and I loved my Onkyo gear for a long time (and still want to love them) but man would it be hard to shell out that kind of money with the condition they're in at the moment.
Yea my Integra gear is still going after 17 years. Of course pre-hdmi gear seems bullet proof but I use it daily for movies or music. Just lost a bid for the a used lx504, now I am glad. Keeping my eye on the rz50 or lx505.
Glad to see them resurrected from the grave. Spec wise, they look competitive, but I would wait until people have had them for a few months before jumping in.
@jsil my buddy had an 809 for 10 years with no issues. He had it on its own shelf, plenty of breathing room all around it and so it could have just been that people with issues had their Onkyos stuffed in a sealed cabinet for years. But again my father in law has had an Elite vsx32 stuffed in a cabinet for years without any issue. 😕
I've yet to have an issue with an Elite
My church is using my VSX 03 and I have no idea how old that is now. I have my VSX 23 in the garage (I got it back in 2008 or 2009 maybe)?
My main AVR in my HT is an SC-77...going strong 8 years later. I have a 502 in my living room, and a 103 in my kids room.
I'm not going to say I've been lucky, as I don't think failing is the norm. I would buy one again in a heartbeat. My only concern is...the 502 I have...I just can't get the sound completely to my liking. Which is why it's in the room it is. It's not bad, but I can't get it to reproduce the sound of, say, that VSX 23 or even the 03.
My first HT speakers and receiver were an Onkyo home theater in a box. I gave it to my brother when I upgraded and it's still going strong today, 13 years later. I've been looking at getting an Onkyo lately for that reason. Who knows if they're still built as well though.
I had an Onkyo 606 that was great until the HDMI issues. However my daughter is still using a TX-8511 and it's going strong. Nice sounding stereo. I'm currently using an RZ-730 in my home theater and I really like it.
309, HTS3505, 646, 840 no issues so far and no other brand gets close to the characteristic Onkyo sound I love so much. Tried to go with Yamaha (681) and Denon (4300) and I had to return as soon as I could to Onkyo. [emoji12]
A 16-year-old TX-SR702 anchors my cave cinema while a more recent TX-RZ810 is in the big room. Both continue to perform flawlessly.
