If this pans out, do you see this as being a future update across the 18" line (all getting the 1920 watt amp as default) or as an upgrade option over standard 18" models?
Tom,
Is the development of the 18" DVC a result of what B&C and PSA did to create the 21" DVC?

tbh, I can't remember what I started on first. Both go back a long while(2 years?). Some of that is just me not having time to validate each sample as quick as possible.(sometimes a new sample would sit for a couple-few weeks.

Pretty much the same philosophy behind both...leveraging our Ohio ICE capabilities. And while we're doing that---you know---let's go to the root of everything and optimize a little here and a little there...

It all seems easy on paper. Then 2 years later...

Both new DVC samples have their strengths, no real weaknesses(compared to the current 18 we use).

We're going to need to trim total subwoofers offered sooner or later. We' at about 30(?) now with the two 12 inch based models. 18 inch models make up 16-17(?) or something like that. That's too many..:)

Tom, What would these DVC drivers allow you to do better than your current offerings. More max output? Smaller enclosure same output? Better sound quality?

Pretty much every woofer parameter has changed. Some slightly, some significantly. But overall, very similar if not outright identical cabinet designs should work wonderfully as the changes tend to offset one another with regards to cabinet optimization. The key would be the DVC allows us to use the 1920 ICE amp we build here on site now. So double the power. Along with that, any frequency power limited will increase in any given product design. And let's be honest, all of our current 18 ipal options matched with our 960w amp are way under powered. Even the standard "12" series models are to a large extent. The B&C NEO motors are just so over-built. Thermally, motor strength, sensitivity. So while other brands might be sweating about adding a couple hundred watts to their stuff....I'm spoiled. Let's DOUBLE the amp power and not think twice about it..:)

The difficult part for me so far is deciding on which of the two DVC samples to push into production. Both have advantages over the current 12 series woofer. But pitted against one another..its a little different. Nothing dramatic. But this one a tiny better here, that one there, this one here, that one there. I'll need to just get off the pot and pick one soon(within 2 weeks) if I want these to get into production by the end of 2021 in some form/design.

I'm finished with test tone thermal checks. Now on to real world(movie) checks. Nothing worse than ported being pushed right at it's "tune"...over and over and over. We'll see which one starts to "cook" first..:)

Tom, what is the pre-order pricing? I’m about to pull trigger on buying dual V1812s but i guess i will hold on for couple months more.

I haven't even made a final decision on where the winner will fit into the product lineup. The two very important factors to consider here are both costing. The new woofer will be quite a bit more expensive than the current 12 series 18. Then we have the bigger amp. The point of the DVC is to use our 1920w amp instead of the 960w amp. That's another substantial jump in component cost.

Another factor is timing. Right now, with the way logistics are, even if I choose the "winner" this weekend and place the purchase order with Italy this week I doubt we'd see these in Ohio this year. With brand new motors like this(not anything they "stock) the fulfillment time is longer and then logistics.

So, up to you of course, but the brand new eV1812 is selling like hot cakes.

How large is your room and which subs do you have now?
