Everything is working great. What is upgrading the firmware in my G54's going to do for me, anybody know, anything?

Thanks
corgi,

have you tried flashing your buffalos back to the old firmware after flashing the new 2.3?

also, if so, do you have a wbr or wbr2?

No idea, but I e-mailed Buffalo Tech asking for release notes or a changelog. If I hear anything, I'll post it here.

No, I have not tried flashing back to an older version. I have 3 WBRs running v2.06 and 2 WBR2s running v2.20.

The Buffalo forums on Broadband Reports has some info about changes in both firmwares:
WBR-G54 - adds AOSS support
WBR2-G54 - adds AES support

If it ain't broke - don't fix it. I've been running for months without touching any of my 4 WBR-G54s which have been extremely reliable. I doubt there is any must have feature that was released which would make me perhaps compromise stability by upgrading.
The only new feature I noticed in 2.20 for the WBR-G54 is AOSS. I was hoping it added support for WPA over WDS. The Sveasoft Alchemy firmware does support it and, as I reported in another thread, reportedly flashes fine to a WBR-G54 now (not a WBR2-G54 yet though). I may try it on my WBR-G54 units soon.
is there any way to flash these things to the 125 speeds?

D
Installed with no problems here.

Don't see anythign different, of course. :)

BTW, if I have the wireless set to MIXED, do 11g devices drop down the to the 11b speed?
Yes, it will default to the slowest connection on the network. So if you have a active 802.11B device on the 802.11g network the whole network will default to 802.11b.
Ever since I've installed my units are having trouble recognizing each other and d'Archive. Similar to problems with Linksys before buying BUffalo. I think I'm going to try and load the old version back.

I absolutely agree! All four of my WBR2-G54's have been working perfectly since the day I set them up. The only thing that would get me to upgrade the firmware at this point would be if they added support for loopback or somehow greatly increased the speed.

Yeah, but BTW if you are contemplating loopback just for in-home IVS j.m. already has posted a solution for that where you don't need router support for loopback (a Wirns plugin):

I had that problem right after updating too. Just power cycled the replays and they've been visible to each other and DVArchive ever since (of course it's only been a couple days now).
Given that this update brings AOSS to the WBR2-G54S, what is the difference between it and the WHR3-G54, other than costing less and being uglier?
Once thing I noticed when I upgraded, there was new option that has something to do with WDS, that if you enable it no other wireless device can connect to the router. Also, on my bridge, with the updated version, the WIRELESS light blinks when transferring data, in the old version the wireless lite didn't. I rolled back to 2.21 with no problems.
Response from Buffalo regarding what's changed in the new firmwares:

Jerry,

Thank you for contacting Buffalo Technical Support. I have been trying to find out if there was anything specific that was updated with the latest release. So far it appears to only contain bug fixes. There is nothing new added to either product. If your unit is working fine without any errors, then I would hold off doing an update. But if you are experiencing any issues or just would like to have the latest firmware, go ahead and update.

Regards,

Deborah
