Valve today announced Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, an updated title due out early next year for Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, PC, and Mac.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive features new maps, characters, and weapons as well as new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leader boards, and more.

"Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999," said Doug Lombardi, VP of Marketing at Valve.

"For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS' award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac."

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is being developed by Valve in conjunction with Hidden Path Entertainment. The game will be playable at PAX Prime this month and Eurogamer Expo 2011.

Pretty exciting news. Hopefully early next year means April or so. By then I will be looking for something new to play most likely. I really never played this series at all so it is new to me. I look forward to seeing this game in action in two weeks!
must increase chocolate milk reserves...
Yoooo son!
For me, the biggest part of the announcement is that it's being made by the developers of Defense Grid! That is one of the best games on the Xbox period.
Boom! Headshot!
i got a headshot... gosh im old
I loved this game and played it a ton while it was in beta. I don't know how well it will translate to consoles, but I can't wait to find out!
any reviews or feedback??? couldn't find anything..

Would count on later on this week, tomorrow is release day I believe.
yeah tomorrow is release day.. that is why i am surprised there aren't any reviews..
pretty good if you're ok with re-hashed maps and 14 year old gameplay and gun mechanics with no ADS
Wow, how bad can an achievement list get? They obviously had the list in mind before the boost to 400 points happened, but instead of coming up with a new list, they just increased the value of the 12 achievements. I was on the fence about the game, but the demo better impress the hell out of me to make up for that list.
I can't wait to get my hands on it, almost purely for the nostalgia value though. I wish they had dug a little deeper for the map selection too.

Back in its day CS was one of a kind, but Valve never capitalized properly on its popularity once they picked it up. Cod4 was basically the de facto CS2. I'm glad to see they're basically sticking to their roots though...its better they not add in stuff like ADS, it would just water it down and make it feel like a cod clone. Cod is the CS clone!
Picked it up on PS3 today. Still basically the same CS with a new skin. The only real bummer is that the frame rate s really disappointing....its 30fps most of the time, with occasional drops. Even though source engine is lightweight they've never properly optimized it for consoles, and CS:GO is no exception. It's still quite playable, but this game would have benefited hugely from 60fps. Cod looks and runs better, so there really no excuse, it's just dev laziness.
Some really crazy omissions for a modern game. No hitmarkers or aim assist. No auto team balance between rounds.
No ADS and no sprint turned me off from this game. Also the guns sound and feel weak.

Well, you don't need to sprint cause you move super fast by default, and you don't need to ADS to aim precisely...you just stop and duck. It's how we did it back in the day.

Honestly, if you didn't play a ton of CS, I dunno how much it will appeal to you. It feels very, very old school. It's still a fantastic game, I'm loving it more and more as I play, but quite a bit of that is nostalgia.

If it was more polished, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to everyone. And it is far and away the best shooter on XBLA/PSN, and you get a ton of value for that $15. But it's not going to replace cod or bf for anyone on a console. The port just isn't good enough.

It's really, really growing on me BTW. It already plays SO much faster than cod snd on the classic maps, but the new demolition mode has even smaller maps and the rounds rarely last more than a minute.
