I don't own one either, but I've been favorably impressed with a demo, so I've been in the same room with one. :>) I think the "joke" might be that the SVS subs have such a large diameter, you couldn't get your arms around one even if you tried.
Not to overanalyze the joke, but maybe beat it to a technical knock out...
The current subs are 16"/41cm diameter, the height varies by model.
The circumference works out to be 50"/128 cm reach needed to fully "hug" it. I don't think it would be a problem for the taller people. I estimate that most people taller than 5'8"/172cm should at least be able to get their arms around it enough to touch fingertip to fingertip.
Yes, I think the subs are cool too. Lots of good shakes, reasonable sound quality at a tough to beat price for the performance. I bought one because I have a very large room and for the money, I couldn't find anything else that could realistically cope.
