The new Echostar (Dish Network) satellite was successfully launched today 10/14/04 2:24 PM PT (10/15/04 3:24 AM Kazakhstan time). It goes into the 105 slot and will have 24 Ku band transponders for CONUS and 12 Ka band spot beam transponders.

Hopefully this will give us more HD from Dish. It usually takes 1-2 months to check it out.

Forgive my ignorance, but will the 105 orbital slot need a new dish to see it? Or a superdish? Or a new 3-sat dish?

The 105 slot will require the Superdish w/ 105 LNB.

I think probably bec. Charlie shot off his mouth some time ago promising 50 new HD channels and have never materialized.

I kind of like the "Surprise, I have a new HD channel tonight" method.
