I need some serious help. I have no idea what I'm doing.

I own a Proxima LS1 that I received for basically nothing ($450, was a demo model, hardly ever used). It is 700 lumens. The room i'm in has no ambient light at all. I plan on using an HTPC to make it 720p when watching DVDs.

My question is what fixed screen do you recommend? I don't mind spending money (but try to keep it under $1500). What gain do I get with only 700 lumens? What size should I keep it to so that the picture looks nice, but big?

Any help would be awesome. Like I said, I'm a bigtime newbie. Right now I have a Da-Lite pulldown, but I'm moving to a fixed screen.

Thanks,

Joe

I think the projector might be too weak for a gray screen like the Grayhawk or HC DaMat. How big is the screen and can you control ambient light? I'd be tempted to try a gain 2.0.

with the exception of a door, the light is completely zero (no windows). So no ambient light whatsoever.

I'm looking at a screen that is 52x92.

If you are going with a fixed screen you may want to look at a lace and grommet system. Da-lite will custom cut this and put on a 2" black boarder with grommets. This screen will be ultra flat and the frame used for lacing up the screen is perfect for mounting mattes to.

I have a Da-lite High power(2.8gain) screen with this system and it worked out better than I hoped.

Hi Paul,

for good prices, try:

http://shopcousinsvideo.com/

Don't forget to add 3.5%duty, and 17.5% VAT should customs get hold of it. The Stewarts screens are the best, but very expensive here in the UK. Try http://www.ivojo.co.uk/screens.htm or http://www.direkt2u.co.uk/ for UK prices on Da-lite screens. There's also a place in Scotland - StereoStereo, but I haven't the url handy right now. The chap there (Gordon) is very helpful).

If you want to make youre own, ask for blackout cloth at your local Alders or similar. Its' a white cloth on one side, and whitish vinyl on the other. Its stops light leaking through (hence the name) and is a good cheap screen material (£5 per meter length, 54ins wide), I got 3m to make a custom size screen (I already have some wood for the frame) so I'm going the DIY route until I know exactly what screen I need for my HT room when it's finished. A lot of people here have stuck with the home made screen because it does a good job as is, and is very cost effective.

Hope that helps.

Paul, The screen I got was 70"x70" (74"x74" incl border)

Da-lite high power. It cost me about $500 US.

It is priced by Sq foot so I paid a little more than

I had too because of the size I wanted. I was not sure

how I wanted to mask it so I just got a 70"x70" screen.

It works great with the CS1,CS2.
