Well I have been reading here for a while and thought this would be the place to ask. I am thinking about finishing my basement in the near future, but need some help from the pros. I whipped up a few pics in paint that could hopefully help you guys out to help me.

Here is what it is now:

here is what is would be without the current walls:

Here is what I was thinking of doing maybe:

OK I was wondering where you guys would suggest to put a small HT setup, was thinking a 52" tv with probably just a 5.1 surround. The pics are obviously not to scale, but a rough idea of what is there at least.

Anything else you guys need from me so you can help, just let me know.

Thanks

Well thinking about it for a few more minutes, I believe you need a window to have a bedroom, so to do that, I would need to put the bedroom by the bathroom, which also opens up the other side of the stairs adn to me looks like a good HT area. What do you guys think?

The 3 holes on the ouside are the windows, 2 on top 1 on right.

There is nothing in particular wrong about your layout(s). You don't seem to waste any space, or put things where they don't belong. You don't really ask any questions in your post. Aside from the bed (yes you do need egress) and bath - how else do you want to use your space? Kids? storage? What are the constraints (HVAC/plumbing lines, etc)? How do you wish to use the HT space (seating for 4? 12?), etc. Ever considered going with a projector?

Well first off, would it be fine opened up like the last pic is, or would a closed in room be better? A projector wouldnt be out of the question, if I am to spend the money to finish the room, may as well spend it the best way possible, if a projector would be better, that is.

Projector vs tv is a personal preference thing. In a light controlled room, in my opinion, a PJ is better. If you had a lot of windows, or you have a spouse who reads or knits or something - maybe not.

Open vs closed. Closed is more predictable from an audio perspective, and from a sound isolation perspective. On either of those points, you may get to a good enough threshhold depending on your personal needs. Open can be more flexible for entertaining.

Opinion but based on our personal experience.

Since you are in the planning before buying mode decide if you want to watch tv or have a Theater visual experience. We have a nice 56in HDTV but it can't deliver a "at the movies" Theater exprience. Our opinion is no television available today can do Theater.

Projector and screen needed to create a Theater in the Home experience. With planning and careful shopping you can have both if you care to.

TVs are nice for television programming/casual watching with lights on and Theater experience with lights down and big screen illuminated is a entirely different thing. In our viewing area we have both and it's a good combination.

Home Theater doesn't require a dedicated fancy decorated room.

It's nice that you have the luxury of planning out your space - we had to confirm our visual desires to the existing space we had.

goodluck!!
