I am getting ready to purchase a new home. the good news is the layout of the basement is perfect for my dedicated HT room. The bad news is it's already finished. Drywall up on the walls, drop-ceiling already up, carpeting, etc... It's a great room and will work awesome in regards to floor plan.

My question is this: How do I sound-proof and treat for acoustics in a situation such as this?

I want to try to seal the room up as much as possible so I can crank the volume anytime I want. And I want to treat the room so the acoustics are better than just plain reflective drywall.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Treating the room will be easy, but soundproofing/dampening will be a challenge.

You could always add a layer of drywall with green glue. It can be done to existing walls.

Replace the door with a solid core sealed door.

But you may have an issue with sound travelling thru HVAC.

I say move in, crank up the music and see what it sounds like throughout the house before you worry about it too much.
