Pretty hard to believe... No rgb LEDs or interpolation? Xbr8 owners must be pleased, as well as 950 owners. Thoughts, comments?

yes we've been talking about the original article a bit in the 2009 sony thread and/or the xbr8 thread.

my take is more like endadget's implication: this is NOT going to be the successor to the XBR8, imo. it's going to be the "XBR10", a step down from the successor to the xbr8 -- a step down in tech and a step down in price.

the successor to the XBR8 will be the "XBR11" which will further the RGGB tech and will remain the flagship set.

others think this will replace the xbr8. i don't buy it. sony could ill afford to take a step back on the high end, losing face and more as the tech innovator.

positioning this set as a lower cost alternative to the RGGB xbr8 successor makes perfect sense to me.

Well, people complain about the prices of the XBRs and this is possibly the end result. I'm all for a cheaper TV, but people cannot expect companies to produce these top quality/high production cost TVs and sell them for cheap. And yes, I do know that mark-up and them are high...

I still think that your reasoning is sound - but now that the "X5500"-name is associated with this cost-conscious model we have a problem in Europe as the "X-line" is reserved for the best Bravias here. Like last year's X4500 which resembles the XBR8.
