I'm assumnig you're referring to the DPS-7.2

It looks really overpriced with those features at $800 retail.

DVD-A, MP3 CDs, CDR/CDRW and THX cert.

But no progressive scan output.

I do have to admit I'm still interested though.

But that's only because it would match my Integra DTR-9.1 really well! :)

That's the one.. Let us know if you get one or audition one..

Thx,

after reading what little text is provided at integra's site, I bet this thing IS indeed prog-scan...what's there to say it's not?
This pressrelease mentions nothing of progressive scan.

Also, I believe that this was confirmed with Onkyo by a member of another forum.

Also, don't you think they would put it in the specs on their website, like they do for the DPS-9.1?

well ****....looks like a nice DVD-A player to me!
Hi,

It is definitely NOT progressive scan. It was reviewed in the November issue of Sound & Vision. The picture quality on this player is suppose to be excellent. It's luminance frequency response is flat meaning the picture should be very detailed and as sharp as it gets. The player would be perfect for someone with a scaler. I am considering it for its video performance since I have a Quadscan Elite and don't need progressive outputs.

Thanks,

Mike
I am also interested in this player. The Integra web site mentions Bass Management for DVD-Audio. Did the review have any details on this? Is the audio quality comparable to their receivers? I have a DTR-6.2 receiver.
I have reviewed Onkyo DV-S757, the same as Integra DPS-7.2 for about 3 weeks.

757(=7.2) uses Pionner mechanisms so its picture qulaity is somewhat different from the predecessors like 535 which has Toshiba's. 757doesn't support progressive mode but is DVD-A capable. It seems that Pionner or Toshiba are't willing to share the cutting edge technology with other Japanese brand like Onkyo or Denon. Denon has have hard times with Toshiba on video tech. For exemple, DVD 5000 wasn't able to survive anymore when Toshiba refused to manufacture for Denon brand.

Onkyo seems to be going on the same way. Onkyo products don't use Tohiba transport anymore but Pionner's which meens the latest DV-S*** line's picture quality is very similar with that of Pionner. 757(7.2) showed roll-offs in high through AVIA so I don't understand how 'SOUND & VISION' could enjoy sharp images from 757. It has smooth and soft images with nice color saturation. It does have chroma bug but not so bad. With the outboard scaler like DVDO it producedd soft but not jagged or artifacted images with richness of colors. If you already have nice outboard scaler or TV with good quality of on board de-interacer and if you prefer smooth and soft images, 757 or 7.2 is yours because it has great audio reproduction.

On audio performance, 757 also rolls off in highs ut you can hear smooth and detailed sound with full of bass from this model. Not top notch, but reasonable at tihs price. Its audio qulaity is very similar to that of DV-S939(=DPS 9.1 ranked at B class recently on STEREOPHILE's recommanded components). It can convert DD and even DTS to 2ch PCM. So if you have high-end 2ch outboard DACs, you can enjoy better CD playback also with high quality of 2ch sound tracks. Shortly saying, 757 is a little 939 with no progressive scan in cheaper chassis with Pionner picture not Tosh.

Yes, it is a nice player but too expensive. With $800, you can have progressive palyer with DVD-A capablity like Toshiba SD5700 and another good CDP like CEC3100. Or you can have Toshiba SD9200 now just below $800.

The article says that it has no bass management for DVD-Audio.

To quote from the article: "And, of course, with a flat luminance frequency response, detail was as sharp as it gets with the DVD system."

Also here is the Luminance Frequency Response for the DPS-7.2 in the lab:

(re level at 1 MHz)

at 4 MHz..........+-0dB

at 5 MHz..........=0.1dB

at 6 MHz..........+-0dB

at 6.75 MHz(DVD limit)..........-0.1dB

From all of the DVD players I have been looking at lately this one has the best Luminance Frequency Response I have seen which translates into detail. The article went on to say the video reproduction was superb. So maybe the 757 and the 7.2 aren't the same.

Thanks for the mini-review of the Onkyo DV-S757 "evaa"!

I'm surprised that S&V reported that the Integra DPS-7.2 doesn't have bassmanagement for DVD-A.

It's clearly listed on the Integra site as a feature:

"Bass Management for complete system control during DVD-Audio playback."
http://www.integrahometheater.com/sh...=dvd&m=DPS-7.2

But what do I know!? :)

I'm glad someone else agrees though. Seems awfully overpriced at $800!

evaa,

You said .."I have reviewed Onkyo DV-S757, the same as Integra DPS-7.2.."

I doubt an Onkyo player will actually "be the same" as the Integra DVD player at all..

Your review seems to indicate that there are significant differences between the Onkyo and the Interga unit.

Darn!!!! I hope the article is wrong, but I would believe S&V before I would trust a web page. Web pages often have 'mistakes'.

I plan to pick up a copy and read the review. I may confront Integra with this and see what they say.
