My components of concern right now are my receiver/surround, blu ray, and hdtv. My receiver does not accept hdmi, although I do plan on eventually getting one that does.

I'm basically trying to figure out hdmi. How would all of this be set up? As in hdmi from here to here, optical from here to here...

Right now I have hdmi from tv to blu ray for the video, and optical from blu ray to receiver for audio. Is this the way it should be for now? When get a better receiver, should it be hdmi from blu ray to tv and hdmi from blu ray to receiver? I'm just trying to get a better grasp for this stuff; I'm sure I made things sound more complicated than they really are. In any case, thank you.

For now, connect HDMI to the TV and optical to the receiver for each device.

If you buy a HDMI receiver that processes audio, connect HDMI from eace device to the receiver. Then run a HDMI from the receiver to the TV.
